Trump Administration Calls Out NJ Governor For Memorial Day ‘Political Stunt’ At ICE Facility

Without a coherent and cohesive message they can deliver to voters, Democrats are largely reliant for photo ops and publicity stunts to make their case.

That has been particularly evident as the left attempts to demonize President Donald Trump’s determination to undo the open-borders policies of the Biden regime.

But when Democratic New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill attempted to stage such a show at an ICE facility in her state on Memorial Day, she received a swift rebuke from Trump’s Department of Homeland Security.

According to the New York Post:

Tensions rose both in and outside Delaney Hall over the weekend, as a hunger and labor strike among inmates carried on for a fourth day.

“Governor Sherrill’s visit to Delaney Hall is nothing more than a political stunt on Memorial Day when visitation is currently suspended due to riots outside the facility,” a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

“Yesterday, approximately 125 agitators surrounded Delaney Hall Detention Facility, many carrying anti-ICE signs and Antifa flags. They formed a human chain around entrances to the facility and set up barricades, blocking all entries and exits.”

News of Sherrill’s participation quickly fueled social media discussion:

Here’s more coverage of the governor’s reception by those tasked with securing the facility, per Fox News:

Protesters attempted to form a human chain outside the Delaney Hall detention center in Newark. New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill attempted to gain access to the building but was refused entry, according to local reports.

“My request for access to Delaney Hall was formally denied this morning, raising serious questions about what they are trying to hide from public view,” Sherrill said, according to Patch.

“I have long opposed private detention facilities and will continue to advocate for the closure of Delaney Hall and against any expansion of mass detention facilities in New Jersey, like the proposed facility in Roxbury,” the governor added.

Some protesters threw water and yelled at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, who were seen detaining several demonstrators, WPIX-TV reported.

Protesters and onlookers were heard screaming at ICE agents, who ordered the crowd to move to a grassy area off the road. Agents and protesters stood face-to-face before the situation calmed down.

“No more ICE!” protesters chanted. Others shouted, “Free them all!”
