Authorities in Louisiana say a motorist plowed into a crowd along Bourbon Street in New Orleans during a large holiday celebration early Wednesday morning, leaving at least 10 people dead and many others injured.

Early reports indicate the subject might have exited the vehicle and fired a weapon into the crowd, though this and other details had not yet been confirmed as of the latest updates available.

According to Fox News:

“The 8th District is currently working a mass casualty incident involving a vehicle that drove into a large crowd on Canal and Bourbon Street,” city officials said.

The NOLA City website stated 30 injured patients had been transported by NOEMS to local hospitals and announced there were at least 10 fatalities.

Police have not confirmed the number of victims involved in the incident.
