Here’s Why Rep. Comer Expects ‘Real Accountability’ Out Of Minnesota Fraud Probe

When Congress is involved, even the lawmakers with the best intentions tend to lean toward style over substance.

But when it comes to investigating the widespread fraud perpetrated against US taxpayers in Minnesota, one GOP congressman thinks this effort will actually produce some tangible results.

Breitbart provided an excerpt of recent remarks from Rep. James Comer (R-KY) on Fox News Channel’s “Hannity”:

We put a lot of time into this report. I want to brag on the committee and the committee staff, but the heroes of this report are the whistleblowers in Minnesota. We had nine whistleblowers who are career government employees in Minnesota who did the right thing.

They saw fraud and they did exactly what they were supposed to do when they caught fraud. They reported it to their superiors. They reported it to Attorney General Keith Ellison and Governor Tim Walz. Time after time, the governor and attorney general both turned a blind eye.

When the whistleblowers continued to blow the whistle, then Governor Walz started retaliating against the whistleblowers. So, we have two crimes here. We have a crime of negligence with our tax dollars. And secondly, we have a crime of retaliating against whistleblowers.

So, we sent a letter and the report to Vice President Vance, who’s done a tremendous job with his fraud task force in Minnesota, and he referred it today to the Department of Justice. So, I think we’re going to see real accountability here. We’ve already seen three dozen people arrested in Minnesota for being a part of this fraud.

Of course, Democrat Gov. Tim Walz has been at the center of the controversy, and he was once again a common topic of discussion on social media after reports of a criminal referral against him:

Red State provided this coverage of Vice President JD Vance’s announcement:

The move comes following the release of a bombshell House Oversight Committee report on Monday.

The report, titled “The Cost of Doing Nothing: How Tim Walz and Keith Ellison Fueled Minnesota’s Fraud Explosion,” concludes that Walz and Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison were aware of credible, systemic fraud in federally funded social programs as early as 2019 and did nothing. Their reasons for inaction weren’t legal barriers. They were fear of lawsuits, fear of being called racist, and fear of upsetting the politically active Somali community in Minneapolis, a constituency both men depend on politically. The cost was an estimated $300 million in federal child nutrition funds lost, and potentially $9 billion in Medicaid-related spending lost or placed at serious risk.

Vance gave a hat tip to the committee in his announcement:

“Minnesota state officials are not above the law, and if they facilitated fraud, lied under oath about what they knew, or harassed and intimated whistleblowers, they must face justice,” Vance wrote on X, adding that his referral was prompted by a letter and a report from the Republican-led House Oversight Committee.

Here’s a clip of how Comer confronted the Minnesota governor during a hearing earlier this year:
