MUST SEE: Hero Principal Takes Down Armed Gunman Despite Being Shot in the Leg

This is one of those stories that restores your faith in the good guys.

Kirk Moore is the principal at Pauls Valley High School in Oklahoma. He’s spent over 35 years serving that community. And last week, he put his life on the line to protect his students from a gunman who walked into the school with two loaded pistols and allegedly intended to carry out a mass shooting.

Newly released surveillance footage shows the moment Moore charged at the armed suspect — even after being shot in the leg — and tackled him to the ground. He wrestled the gun out of the shooter’s hand and pinned him down until help arrived.

Collin Rugg posted the surveillance video that’s now going viral across social media:

This man is an American hero. Full stop.

Fox News had more on how the attack unfolded:

According to an arrest affidavit, Victor Lee Hawkins, 20, entered the school carrying two loaded semiautomatic handguns on April 7. Authorities said the shooting unfolded around 2:21 p.m., prompting a lockdown until officers cleared the building.

Hawkins allegedly pointed a gun and yelled for people to “get on the ground.” He then pointed a gun at a student and attempted to fire, but the weapon malfunctioned.

After clearing the malfunction, he opened fire on another student but missed. The affidavit states Moore ran to the lobby after hearing gunfire, where Hawkins allegedly fired at him, striking him in the right leg.

Moore then “wrestled with Hawkins on a bench in the foyer and was able to remove Hawkins’ pistol from his hand,” according to the court documents. A staff member then kicked the gun away.

Shot in the leg and he still charged. That’s not something you can teach. That’s heart.

Libs of TikTok summed up what millions of people were thinking when the video dropped:

NBC News reported on what the suspect allegedly told investigators:

Hawkins, a former student at the school, described Moore as someone he “did not like,” prosecutors said. Court documents show Hawkins studied the Columbine school shooting and told investigators he “wanted to conduct his own school shooting like the Columbine shooters did.”

Investigators said Hawkins admitted going to the school with two firearms belonging to his father, with the intention of k*lling students, faculty members, Moore, and himself.

Pauls Valley Police Chief Don May said in an interview that Moore’s football-like takedown thwarted a much larger tragedy. “It doesn’t surprise me the actions that he took, but it is amazing, the actions that he took,” he said. “He saved kids’ lives.”

Moore was airlifted to a hospital in stable condition and has since been released. In a statement, he said he is “healthy and recovering” and credited training for his response.

Hawkins has been charged with shooting with intent to k*ll, feloniously pointing a firearm, and carrying a weapon to a public assembly. He’s reportedly being held on $1 million bail and is scheduled to appear in court on May 8.

The initial report last week had already started gaining traction before the surveillance footage came out:

Moore was the only person injured. No students were physically harmed — because of what this man did.
