The Department of Justice has now taken former Des Moines Public Schools Superintendent Ian Roberts into custody.

After his arrest, Ian Roberts was originally taken to a Siox City jail.

But now, he is in federal custody, where he will remain until further action is taken.

Fox News reported:

The former Iowa school district superintendent detained by immigration authorities last week has been taken into custody by the Justice Department.

Ian Roberts, who led Des Moines Public Schools (DMPS), was no longer in the custody of the Woodbury County Jail in Sioux City, about 150 miles northwest of Des Moines, Sheriff Chad Sheehan said.

Roberts was taken into federal custody on an arrest warrant and made his first court appearance, the Justice Department said. He is charged with being unlawfully present in the United States while possessing firearms.

Federal prosecutors said Roberts, 54, was found with four firearms on Sept. 26 while living in the country illegally. He will remain detained in federal custody pending further proceedings.

Ian Roberts has been fired from his role leading the biggest public school district in Iowa, and his license has been suspended.

The New York Post has more:

ICE agents, with assistance from local police, found Roberts in possession of a loaded handgun, $3,000 in cash and a fixed-blade hunting knife at the time of his arrest, according to the enforcement agency at the time.Federal authorities now revealed Roberts was in possession of a total of four firearms, according to Fox News.

Despite not having a valid work permit, the 52-year-old led the Des Moines Public Schools — the state’s largest school district — until his shocking apprehension.

Roberts resigned his position last week, the Des Moines Register reported.

The Iowa state board revoked Roberts’ superintendent license following his arrest.

“Its a sad and troubling end for an individual who gave many people, especially our students, hope,” Des Moines Public School board chair Jackie Norris told the Register.

Roberts is fighting the deportation order to his native Guyana and will remain in federal custody pending further proceedings.

By the way, this guy is a registered Democrat who received mail-in ballots to vote in the 2020 election (no surprise there!)
