Here’s some good news: Democrat New York Rep. Jerry Nadler is finally retiring.
After over three decades in Congress, 78-year-old Rep. Nadler announced today that he will not seek re-election in 2026.

Rep. Jerry Nadler has announced he will retire next year, choosing not to run for another term in Congress.
For more than thirty years, he has been a liberal voice on Capitol Hill.
Nadler has warned that President Trump poses a grave threat to the very foundations of American democracy.
Rep. Nadler appears to have been ousted from Congress by the younger — and more radical — generation of Democrats.
He told the NYT that he was “persuaded” to retire in order to let a new wave of liberals to take over.
The New York Times reported:
Representative Jerrold Nadler, a New York Democrat who has been one of Congress’s leading liberal voices for three decades, will not seek re-election next year, heeding a call for generational change roiling his party.
The decision will mark the close of a 34-year congressional career that put Mr. Nadler at the center of major civil rights battles and three presidential impeachments. It will also almost certainly touch off a crowded primary fight over a rare open Democratic seat in the heart of Manhattan.
In a recent interview in his downtown Manhattan office, Mr. Nadler, 78, said he hesitated to step aside when he believes that President Trump is threatening the foundations of democracy. But he said he had been persuaded it was time for a changing of the guard.
ADVERTISEMENT“Watching the Biden thing really said something about the necessity for generational change in the party, and I think I want to respect that,” Mr. Nadler said, adding that a younger successor “can maybe do better, can maybe help us more.”
Nadler was already forced to give up his position as top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee last year in order to make way for a 26-year-old replacement.
Axios noted:
Why it matters: It’s a major announcement by one of Congress’ longest serving members at a time when the Democratic base is growing restless about ousting lawmakers in their 70s and 80s.
- Nadler has been a top target for those trying to take down older incumbents: He was pushed out as House Judiciary Committee ranking member last year and faced a primary challenge from 26-year-old Liam Elkind.
- Nadler’s announcement is sure to lead to a crowded field of Democrats seeking to replace him in his solidly Democratic, Manhattan-based seat.
A few months ago, Nadler was also accused of harboring rioters in his office and one of his staff members was detained by DHS agents.
He honestly seemed very shaken by the incident, accusing President Trump of “sowing chaos.”
Per Politico:
Officers with the Department of Homeland Security briefly detained a staff member in Rep. Jerry Nadler’s (D-N.Y.) Manhattan office during an incident on Wednesday, as protests took place outside an immigration courthouse in the same federal facility as the representative’s office.
ADVERTISEMENTThe incident, first reported by the news outlet Gothamist on Friday, was captured on video. In the recording, a DHS officer can be heard saying that members of Nadler’s staff were “harboring rioters” in their office while another officer cuffs a crying staffer…
Nadler slammed both DHS and President Donald Trump in a statement Saturday afternoon for demonstrating “aggressive and heavy-handed tactics” and “sowing chaos” not only in his district, but across the country, as the Trump administration escalates its crackdown on immigration.
“President Trump and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) are sowing chaos in our communities, using intimidation tactics against both citizens and non-citizens in a reckless and dangerous manner. In the most recent and deeply troubling incident, DHS agents forcefully entered my Congressional office and handcuffed a member of my staff,” Nadler said, adding that he was “alarmed by the aggressive and heavy-handed tactics DHS is employing in New York City and across the country.”
His retirement is all for the better…
Something tells me Jerry and his “fashion choices” won’t be missed on Capitol Hill.

Hopefully, Nadler will be replaced with someone who wears pants properly.
Or, at the very least, doesn’t crap theirs…
Since long-time Congressman Jerry Nadler is leaving stage right, it seems like as good a time as any to circle back around to that one time he legit shat himself live on stage. 😁 pic.twitter.com/9NlPkHjNGj
