Former Republican Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan has switched his party affiliation to Democrat.
“GOP policies on tax cuts, health insurance and immigration pushed me to switch political parties,” Duncan wrote in an op-ed for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“Loving my neighbor is easier now,” he added.
“My journey to becoming a Democrat started well before Donald Trump tried to steal the 2020 election in Georgia. My decision was centered around my daily struggle to love my neighbor, as a Republican,” Duncan wrote on social media.

The Georgia Republican Party expelled Duncan in January, claiming he “endorsed Democrat Joe Biden for President of the United States against Donald J. Trump, the Republican nominee for President and, in doing so, violated his oath of allegiance to the Republican Party.”
In a release, the Georgia Republican Party said Duncan endorsed Kamala Harris after Biden dropped out of the race.

Duncan reacted to his expulsion on X on Monday night.
“Hard to believe this is a good use of time for a party that’s only got a limited amount of time to figure out mass deportations, world peace, and global tariffs. Learn how to take a victory lap not light another dumpster fire.”
Duncan has been an outspoken critic of President-elect Donald Trump and spoke at the Democratic National Convention.
Back in August, Georgia GOP chair Josh McKoon said he thinks Duncan is selling out to the Democrats.
“Geoff Duncan is no longer a Republican. Geoff Duncan clearly decided to join with the Democratic Party, and particularly extreme elements of the Democratic Party,” McKoon told Channel 2 Action News in August.
But Duncan has insisted that he’s still a Republican trying to save his own party from Trump.

“I have been receiving phone calls and conversations and cups of coffee from Democrats, independents and even some common sense Republicans who are sick and tired of watching not only the direction of this party, but this country — encouraging me to look into seeking higher office. And it’s something I’ll seriously consider,” Duncan says.
“If Georgia wants to elect somebody that wants to come into the office every day and make a difference, build consensus and turn chaos into conversations, then it’s something I’ll certainly entertain.”
