An unidentified gunman in Kentucky shot a state trooper and proceeded to open fire inside a Baptist Church in southwest Lexington.
The shooting resulted in both the officer and several members of the Richmond Road Baptist Church being treated at a local hospital.
Authorities have reported that the suspect behind the shooting is dead.

A suspect shot and wounded a state trooper Sunday and fled to a Kentucky church, where multiple people were injured in a second shooting, authorities said.
The shooting spree ended when the suspect was killed, Kentucky State Police said on social media.
After shooting the trooper, the suspect ended up at Richmond Road Baptist Church in southwest Lexington, state police said. Police did not not provide additional information about the suspect’s death.
The trooper was shot at 11:36 a.m. in Fayette County, where Lexington is located, state police said. The suspect then fled, ending up at the Baptist church, police said.
The shooting at the church resulted in multiple injuries, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said in a social media post. The trooper and others were being treated at a nearby hospital but other details were still emerging, the governor said. The extent of the injuries was not immediately known.
“Please pray for everyone affected by these senseless acts of violence, and let’s give thanks for the swift response by the Lexington Police Department and Kentucky State Police,” Beshear said.

CNN has reported that two people have been pronounced dead from the shooting:
Two women were killed in a shooting Sunday at the Richmond Road Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky, Gov. Andy Beshear said.
The suspect fled to the church, where two men were also shot and injured, after shooting a state trooper near the Blue Grass Airport, police said. The suspect is also dead.
The incident at the airport unfolded around 11:35 a.m. ET. The unidentified suspect shot at a trooper on Terminal Drive near the airport and fled the scene before ending up at Richmond Road Baptist Church, Kentucky State Police and the Lexington Police Department explained in separate X posts.
Two men and two women were injured in a shooting at the church, Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers said. The two women died, and both men were transported to the hospital, he added. One man is in critical condition, and the other is stable Weathers said.
State troopers and the Lexington Police Department secured the suspect, who is dead. It is unclear how the suspect died.
The injured trooper is in stable condition, Weathers said.
