The White House was a flurry of activity today during an Oval Office meeting between new Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and President Trump.
It seemed as if the dustup caused by Ukraine’s Zelensky was fresh in Carney’s mind.
The Canadian PM avoided any of the arrogant bluster that ended with Zelensky getting the boot during his last visit, though there were definitely some tense moments.
But the most attention-grabbing moment maybe have been when President Trump started teasing some huge “very, very big” upcoming announcement — and he interrupted the meeting with Carney twice to hint at it!
So the big question is… what is this historic announcement that the President is preparing to make, and what does it have to do with?
Sitting next to Carney in the Oval Office, President Trump seemed hard pressed to keep the news under wraps, obviously dying to spill the beans.
Check out this clip, one of two times President Trump circled back to his upcoming “very, very big announcement”:
President Trump: “We are going to have a very big announcement to make. Like as big as it gets, and I won’t tell you what.. It is really, really, positive. It’ll be one of the most important announcements that has been made in many years about a certain subject.” pic.twitter.com/ytj5bziAno

Rumors immediately started circulating about what it could have to do with.
Whatever it is, it apparently doesn’t include Canadian statehood or joining the Union.
Judging by the tense exchange that erupted when that issue came up, Carney seems as far from acquiescing to that eventuality as ever — as you can see in this C-Span clip:
Pres. Trump on Canada becoming 51st state: We're not going to be discussing that, unless somebody wants to discuss that…it really would be a wonderful marriage.

The Canadian PM was obviously uncomfortable during that VERY REASONABLE AND LOGICAL case laid out by President Trump for Canadian statehood.
He almost couldn’t control himself as he struggled not to interrupt President Trump (as visions of Zelensky getting booted out of the White House door danced in his head).
But President Trump is obviously still very serious about bringing Canada into the Union, as he brought up the subject on social media even before the meeting with Carney, according to the New York Post:
President Trump again said Tuesday he wanted Canada to be America’s 51st state.
“I still believe that, but, you know, it takes two to tango,” Trump told reporters about his ambitions, while adding that the topic of annexation wasn’t on the meeting’s agenda.
The president then called the US-Canadian border an “artificial line” and said acquiring America’s northern neighbor would lead to a “massive tax cut” for them.
Carney, 60, shot back that Canada is “not for sale” and that the Canadian view on becoming the 51st state “is not going to change.”
“As you know from real estate, there are some places that are never for sale,” he said.
Moments earlier, Trump shook hands and smiled with Carney outside the Oval, meeting for the first time, minutes after sending a snarky message on Truth Social questioning the value of trade with America’s northern neighbor.
“I very much want to work with him, but cannot understand one simple TRUTH — Why is America subsidizing Canada by $200 Billion Dollars a year, in addition to giving them FREE Military Protection, and many other things?” Trump, 78, told his followers.
ADVERTISEMENT“We don’t need their Cars, we don’t need their Energy, we don’t need their Lumber, we don’t need ANYTHING they have, other than their friendship, which hopefully we will always maintain. They, on the other hand, need EVERYTHING from us!” he went on.
“That will be, most likely, my only question of consequence,” the president wrote.
Obviously the coming “very, very big announcement” touted by President Trump doesn’t seem related to that issue.
As I said, the President later came back to the issue, almost as if he wanted to make sure the press didn’t get the wrong idea about the big tease.
After Carney brought the press to laughter by saying he was sitting on the edge of his seat regarding the President’s big announcement, Trump went on to talk about other issues; trade was a big one.
But then, as if he couldn’t quit thinking about it, President Trump brought up his impending announcement again, as reported by Fox News:
“We’re going to have a very, very big announcement to make, like as big as it gets,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, where he is meeting with Canada’s new Prime Minister Mark Carney. “And I won’t tell you on what… and it’s very positive.”
After that, the president asked Carney if he’d like to say a few words.
“I’m on the edge of my seat,” Carney said, drawing laughter from the press before thanking Trump for his “hospitality” and “leadership.”
After teasing the forthcoming announcement, Trump went on to discuss trade, but the president circled back to clarify that the announcement would not necessarily be on that subject.
“We’re going to have a great announcement. And I’m not necessarily saying it’s on trade,” Trump said. “We’re going to have a great announcement over the next few days. Announcement that will be, so, so incredible, so positive. And I’m not saying… I don’t want you to think it’s necessarily on trade.” (Emphasis Added.)
So what is this big announcement?
At least one of the smart bets is some type of Mideast peace deal intended to halt the current WWIII scenario from going unmitigatedly kinetic.
Kayleigh McEnany of Fox News shared a clip from a discussion on FNC about the meeting — which is worth watching.
But she also pointed out in her post that the Iranian-backed Houthis “have capitulated”, apparently calling for an end to the fighting.
While this may play in to some larger Mideast deal, that alone doesn’t seem big enough to warrant President Trump’s apparent excitement over this “very, very big announcement”.
Though, as McEnany included in her post, he DID immediately call an end to strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen:
🚨 NEWS straight from the Oval Office:
1⃣ President Trump teases "a very big announcement" Friday or Monday — not necessarily on trade.
2⃣ Houthis have capitulated. They want the fighting to end, and President Trump announced an end to strikes immediately.

If that is the track that this “very, very big announcement” is taking, one key thing to watch for would be Israel.
Are they onboard?
Because just a short time ago I started seeing that the Israelis put out a warning following yesterday’s impact of a missile at Ben Gurion airport.
The Israelis are warning anyone living near the main Houthi controlled airport to evacuate, which doesn’t sound very much like a cessation of hostilities to me.
But, things can change fast in the diplomatic world.
There are other hints that this “very, very big announcement” might have to do with bringing the Mideast back from the brink of all out war.
Rep. Tim Burchett, for example, just posted one of his daily update videos, as is his custom.
He, and other Congressmen, have apparently been in meetings today with King Abdullah II of Jordan:

Considering King Abdullah’s almost mythical stature relative to most Mideast leaders, if something big is going down in the region… you can bet King Abdullah will be playing a role.
But there are other indications that the “very, very big announcement” could be related to the Mideast, as well.
President Trump did mention the announcement would happen on either Thursday or Friday of this week, or next Monday — “before we leave”.
The destinations he intends to visit include a handful of Mideast nations: Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar at the very least, according to a report in The Hill:
The president is leaving for the Middle East on Monday and said that his announcement will be made on Thursday, Friday or Monday before he departs. He is set to visit Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar on his trip, which is expected to end on May 16.
“It will be one of the most important announcements that has been made in many years about a certain subject, very important subject. So, you’ll all be here,” the president added.
The president’s trip has renewed hope for some American Israeli families of hostages held by Hamas that there could be a breakthrough between Hamas and Israel to bring their family members home.
Trump has said he is working towards an end to the war and has been chasing a major diplomatic breakthrough in brokering ties between Saudi Arabia and Israel, but Riyadh is holding back over Israel’s insistence on continuing the war.
Is it possible that President Trump is about to deliver on one of his most serious campaign promises?
Is he actually on the verge of bringing the Mideast — and by implication, the entire world — back from the brink of all out war?
Has Iran agreed to whatever terms the President has spelled out for them?
There are a lot of players at this table; some who WANT the status quo to continue, some who want to end the dangerous game of endless wars…
And even some who want to take the next step off the edge of that cliff, for the express purpose of cataclysmic global agendas.
If President Trump can really step in to the midst of that ongoing chess game and get everyone to step back and end the current hostilities — that wouldn’t just be a “big” announcement.
That would be, truly, a “very, very big announcement”, just as the President is describing his upcoming revelation.
According to President Trump, we could find out the details as early as two days from now, on Thursday.
Until then I’m putting this smack dab in the middle of the “DEVELOPING STORIES” category, and like the Canadian PM…
President Trump has me sitting on the edge of my seat!
