President Trump’s 100 days in office has also equated to 100 days of Republican backstabbing in both the House and Senate.
On one hand, there’s nothing new there to report.
But this nomination is important for what will happen INSTEAD — and who gets to CHOOSE to fill this spot — if President Trump’s nominee gets thwarted by Senate Republicans (ie: RINOs).
With the clock running out and the news that Senator Tom Tillis is refusing to vote for the President’s nominee for U.S. Attorney in DC, the backstabbing continues.
As I researched this story, it became painfully clear that the PLOT against Ed Martin’s nomination didn’t suddenly pop up in the last few days.
There has been a concerted effort to destroy his influence in Washington for some time, stemming in part from his defense of several J6 political prisoners.
As Sen. Tillis grabbed headlines today with his vocal refusal to support President Trump’s pick, Charlie Kirk was one of the first to bring this plot in to current focus:
BREAKING: Sen. Tom Tillis informs the White House he is opposing President Trump's pick for U.S. Attorney for D.C. Ed Martin.
"Most of my concerns related to January 6th."
"I've indicated to the White House I wouldn't support his nomination."

Here’s the full text of Charlie Kirk’s explanation of why Sen. Tillis’ logic is “absurd”:
BREAKING: Sen. Tom Tillis informs the White House he is opposing President Trump’s pick for U.S. Attorney for D.C. Ed Martin.
“Most of my concerns related to January 6th.”
“I’ve indicated to the White House I wouldn’t support his nomination.”
Tillis’ logic is absurd. He ignores or forgets that many J6ers who entered the Capitol were waved in by Capitol Police. Many simply looked inside the building or took a selfie and left. Those people did NOT deserve to spend a day in prison.
Tillis is handing this critical post to the Democrats. If Ed Martin is not confirmed by Senate Republicans before May 20th, Trump-hating Judge Boasberg gets to choose his replacement. (Emphasis added.)

Did you catch that last part?
When I said the clock was ticking, I meant it.
If Ed Martin isn’t confirmed as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia by that May 20th deadline, there is a very good chance that Judge Boasberg gets to install a U.S. Attorney of HIS choosing.
Judge Boasberg has consistently worked against President Trump’s agenda at every step, spearheading much of the judicial lawfare against the President’s immigration policy.
That is one of the dangerous possibilities if Senate Republicans continue to work against President Trump’s mandate to lead, and if Ed Martin is not quickly confirmed.
But the President’s pick for implementing a return to law and order in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia has faced controversy since day one, long before Senator Tillis grabbed headlines for bucking the President’s nominee.
With the usual suspects of Senators seemingly conspiring through procedural moves — and outright “No” votes — to thwart Ed Martin’s confirmation process, President Trump is now weighing in.
He took to his Truth Social account to call out the Senators on the Judiciary Committee who are putting Ed Martin’s confirmation in jeopardy.
He articulated his hope that Republicans would get themselves on the right side of this vote, and be able to look back proudly that they didn’t thwart such an important nomination.
And the President stated emphatically, “We are going to take out Country BACK, and FAST” in his social media response to the pushback against Ed Martin:

Here’s the full text of the President’s post in case that’s not easily readable:
Ed Martin is going through the approval process to be U.S. Attorney in the District of Columbia. According to many but, in particular, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., his approval is IMPERATIVE in terms of doing all that has to be done to SAVE LIVES and to, MAKE AMERICA HEALTHY AGAIN. This is a passion for Ed, more so than for almost anyone that I have seen. One of the reasons that I was so successful in winning the 2024 Presidential Election is my commitment to Health, and helping to Make America Healthy. The Cost of the Chronic Disease Epidemic has gotten out of control over the past four years of the Biden Presidency. We are going to take our Country BACK, and FAST. Ed Martin will be a big player in doing so and, I hope, that the Republican Senators will make a commitment to his approval, which is now before them. Ed is coming up on the deadline for Voting and, if approved, HE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN. When some day in the future you look back at your Vote for Ed Martin, you will be very proud of what you have done for America and America’s Health. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
Amid today’s fervor surrounding Sen. Tillis’ resistance, and after President Trump’s pushback on social media, one Senator whose vote was up in the air apparently decided to make a decision about his stance.
As a true conservative and Texan, I loath John Cornyn for the DESPICABLE SWAMP POLITICAN that he is — and I’m not fooled by his recent pro-Trump stance; it’s all for political show.
But Senator Cornyn suddenly decided he would vote in favor of confirming Ed Martin today, saying all the right things, and at least proving he’s smart enough to know not to cross President Trump:

Cornyn originally indicated that he would not commit to voting for Ed Martin.
But as the political heat started to rise around Sen. Tillis in response to his own resistance, Cornyn apparently re-read the room and realized the political mistake he was about to make.
He now claims to defer to President Trump’s choices, according to the Daily Caller:
Interim U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia Ed Martin’s nomination to serve as D.C.’s top prosecutor is in serious jeopardy after Republican North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis suggested he will vote against the attorney’s confirmation.
Republican Texas Sen. John Cornyn, another key vote on the judiciary panel, announced his support for Martin on Tuesday.
“When he comes up for a vote, I intend to support him,” Cornyn, who is facing a competitive primary challenge, told reporters. “I tend to defer to the president on his choices.”
“He’s [the president is] entitled to some deference on his choices,” the Texas senator added. “What happens after this is out of my hands.”
One Senator, Thomas Tuberville from Alabama, took the the airwaves via an interview on Newsmax with his thoughts on the matter.
I don’t believe I’ve heard it explained any better than Sen. Tuberville, telling Senators to put their constituents first — rather than their EMOTIONS — and back President Trump’s choice:
77 million Americans voted for President Trump and his America First Agenda.
Get on board, or get out of the way.

The backlash against the Republican holdouts has also picked up on social media.
Popular conservative and pro-Trump accounts are calling for an outpouring of support for Ed Martin’s confirmation.
Many are calling for a flood of support in favor of Martin by phoning the offices of the Republican holdouts in the Senate, including Sen. Tillis:
Thom Tillis (@SenThomTillis) voted to confirm Antony Blinken, Janet Yellen, Lloyd Austin, Merrick Garland, Pete Buttigieg, and Gina Raimondo.
We had to pull teeth to get him to confirm Pete Hegseth—and now he’s enabling Democrat lawfare by refusing to support Ed Martin.

Many are bringing back to memory the fact that Sen. Tillis was part of the effort to block Hegseth’s nomination in the Senate.
As you watch Thom Tillis explain why he wants to block Ed Martin — which would result in anti-Trump Judge Boasberg appointing the US Atty in DC —
— recall he also worked to blow up the Hegseth nomination.

Unfortunately, the plot against Ed Martin has been ongoing for some time.
And it may simply be too late to fully unravel the web of procedural manipulation that those in the Senate have woven to thwart his confirmation.
A few days ago, Cornyn was still doing his part to hold up Martin’s nomination, effectively helping to run out the clock on his nomination.
But he wasn’t alone in his coordinated work against Martin.
The Senate Judiciary Chair, Chuck Grassley, obviously coordinated with Democrat Dick Durbin, to keep Ed Martin’s nomination stuck in committee, to die a procedural death before a vote could ever be taken.
Just a week ago, the Judiciary Committee AGAIN put off scheduling a vote for Martin’s confirmation, once again citing procedural regulations according to Bloomberg Law:
The Senate Judiciary Committee again put off a vote on whether it should hold a hearing to consider the nomination of former “Stop the Steal” organizer Ed Martin to be D.C. US attorney, while members continue to review information about the nominee.
Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said at a committee meeting Thursday he is going to wait to put Martin on the committee’s agenda to give members and staff time to review the nominee’s responses to hundreds of questions from senators and to meet him personally.
Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, said at the meeting that because of this agreement, he wouldn’t call a vote that day on whether to take the unusual step of having a hearing on Martin, as he initially planned.
Grassley is still receiving background materials on Martin’s nomination and can’t procedurally list a nominee on the agenda while that review is underway, a source familiar with the process said.
Durbin said in an interview a potential hearing vote is still on the table, but that he sees “a good faith effort to look closely at his responses.”
When members on both sides of the aisle review Martin’s responses, “I think they’ll come to the same conclusion I’ve come to: he is not qualified for this position,” Durbin said.
Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), another panel member, said, “I’m going to take my time” on Martin’s nomination.
Meanwhile, the Trump White House is not giving up.
The consequences of a potential Judge Boasberg appointment for the new U.S. Attorney for the federal DC prosecutor’s office is unthinkable.
Steve Bannon brought Mike Howell, the Director of the Oversight Project with the Heritage Foundation, on his show to talk about that danger.
Howell’s argument is that the Senate can’t be allowed to take down President Trump’s “favorite U.S. Attorney”.
He also gave a litany of the false narratives that have been leveled against Ed Martin over the course of this plot:

— Bannon’s WarRoom (@Bannons_WarRoom) May 5, 2025
Howell is advising people to do exactly what so many others are calling for — reach out to the Senate and let them know to ACT on getting Ed Martin confirmed as the U.S. Attorney in DC!
But it appears that even Senate Majority Leader John Thune — a supposed Trump loyalist, right? — is feigning impotence.
In other words, he’s basically refusing to take sides, refusing to back President Trump’s nominee, and throwing his hands up as if he has no clout with Senate Republicans.
As usual, these people will strong arm their own party for the sake of their own pride on tiny issues, but will pretend to be powerless when it actually counts.
Thune’s comments about the matter sound more like a spectator commenting on a football game which he has no involvement in than it does the leader of the Republicans in the Senate in this report in The Hill:
The Senate looks likely to sink the nomination of Ed Martin, President Trump’s pick for U.S. attorney for D.C., leaving his future in doubt amid a pressure campaign on the GOP from the president.
Martin, who is already serving as interim U.S. attorney, can only do so for 120 days, leaving a May 20 deadline to confirm his nomination.
It’s a rare case of a Senate Republican presenting a roadblock to a Trump nominee — even as the president on Tuesday morning urged the Senate Judiciary Committee to set a date to consider Martin’s nomination.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) suggested it could be the end of the road for Martin.
A former “Stop the Steal” speaker, Martin represented several Jan. 6 defendants in trials, while one of his first moves in his current post was to reassign or dismiss prosecutors on those cases. He also simultaneously represented one client while moving to dismiss charges against him as U.S. attorney, doing the same for all cases in the wake of broad pardons issued by Trump on his first day in office.
Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), the ranking member on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said Martin’s nomination is dead, in “practical terms.”
He noted that the FBI needed to conduct a background investigation of Martin by this week for his nomination to come up for a vote in committee before a May 20 deadline.
ADVERTISEMENT“The decision was made last night not to move forward with the [background investigation],” he said.
“In strict legal terms, he’s still interim [U.S. attorney] until the end of May, the 20th or 21st, and the district court judge then has the option to fill the interim vacancy when he’s finished,” he said.
If you’ve stuck with me this far, I’m assuming you’re invested.
I’m also assuming you’re just as ticked off as I am that the Republicans are so flagrantly bucking the mandate that WE THE PEOPLE handed President Trump!
If that’s you, here’s Natalie Winters just a short time ago completely ripping the RINOs that can’t find it in their heart to vote for President Trump’s nominee for U.S. Attorney…
But they can vote for Merrick Garland, they can vote for amnesty for illegal aliens, and they can vote OVER AND OVER AGAIN for sending U.S. taxpayer money to Ukraine… but they can’t vote for Ed Martin because he rightfully defended those persecuted for walking inside the OPEN CAPITOL building during J6?
Here’s Natalie Winters ripping those guys to shreds, as only she can do…
And connecting the dots to (you guessed it…) BLACK STONE:
Shredding RINOs who’ll vote for Merrick Garland, amnesty for illegals, and Ukraine aid but not Ed Martin.

I honestly don’t know how President Trump does it.
I don’t know how he gets up every day, knowing how much work there is to do, and simultaneously knowing how many SO-CALLED REPUBLICANS there are standing in his way in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.
I have to agree with most of the commentators — it doesn’t look good for Ed Martin’s confirmation.
But I’ve seen President Trump do things that no human would ever deem possible, under odds that no betting man would take.
I’m praying he can do it again, and KEEP UP THE WORK of draining that DC swamp, with Ed Martin as the newest U.S. Attorney.
