BREAKING: Democrats Storm Iowa State Capitol Over “Trans Civil Rights”

A group of so-called ‘trans rights activists’ just stormed the Iowa State Capitol over a bill that would remove ‘gender identity’ as a protected class.

If passed, the legislation would be a major win towards reversing dangerous woke gender ideologies in the government and could lead to other states following in Iowa’s footsteps.

The Iowa House and Senate were both expected to vote on the bill today before the crowd descended on the building.

Take a look at what’s happening:

The Des Moines Register reported:

Chanting filled the Iowa Capitol hallways Thursday as House lawmakers heard public testimony on a bill that would eliminate civil rights protections for transgender Iowans.

Hundreds of Iowans again packed the Iowa Capitol rotunda to protest the bill, waving pride flags, holding signs and chanting “no hate in our state” and “you represent us.” A line of protesters led out the building’s door as more people waited to be let inside.

Capitol security guards said more than 2,500 people had entered the building Thursday, compared to roughly 600 on a more typical day.

The massive protest caps off a week of heated debate on the legislation, House File 583, which removes gender identity as a protected class in the Iowa Civil Rights Act, the law that shields Iowans from discrimination in employment, housing, education, public accommodations and more.

The Republican-controlled Senate began debating the legislation early Thursday afternoon and the House is expected to follow suit, which would send the bill to Gov. Kim Reynolds’ desk for her signature.

Reynolds, through a spokesperson, has declined to comment on the legislation.

State troopers cordoned off the hallway outside the committee room where the public hearing was set to take place, hoping to avoid a repeat of Monday when protesters’ chanting drowned out testimony during a subcommittee hearing and troopers arrested two people as they attempted to push the crowd back.

AP also covered the news:

Amid a heavy police presence and hundreds of vocal protesters, Iowa lawmakers on Thursday considered an unprecedented bill that would strip the state civil rights code of protections based on gender identity, a move opponents say could expose transgender people to discrimination in numerous areas of life.

Both the House and Senate were expected to vote on the legislation Thursday, the same day the Georgia House backed away from removing gender protections from the state’s hate crimes law, which was passed in 2020 after the death of Ahmaud Arbery.

Iowa’s bill, first introduced last week, raced through the legislative process, despite opposition from LGBTQ+ advocates who rallied at the Capitol on Monday and Tuesday.

On Thursday, opponents of the bill filed into the Capitol rotunda with signs and rainbow flags to rally before, during and after a 90-minute public hearing, shouting, “No hate in our state!” There was a heavy police presence, with state troopers stationed around the rotunda and hearing room.

Of the 167 people who signed up to testify at the public hearing before a House committee, all but 24 were opposed to the bill. Each time a person who had spoken opened the hearing room door to leave, the roar of protesters outside filled the room, forcing repeated pauses.

To avoid delays, state troopers blocked off the hallway outside the room, creating a “natural buffer,” said Department of Public Safety Commissioner Stephan Bayens. The move was intended to allow the public hearing to proceed while also protecting First Amendment rights to demonstrate, Bayens said.

In Iowa, gender identity was added to the civil rights code in 2007 when Democrats controlled the Legislature. If removed, Iowa would be the first state to undo explicit nondiscrimination protections based on gender identity, said Logan Casey, director of policy research at the Movement Advancement Project.

Make no mistake: according to the precedent set by Democrats a few years back, this is an insurrection.

Right?

So, these insurrectionists can be punished to the full extent of the law?

And yet, liberals like Brain Krassenstein are already refusing to play by their own rules, jumping to defend these ‘activists.’

So, according the left, it’s an ‘insurrection’ when Republicans do it but a ‘peaceful protest’ when Democrats do it?

I don’t think so.

Many peaceful J6ers were arrested and persecuted for simply participating in the Capitol protests.

For protesting a much bigger issue than ‘trans rights,’ mind you.

So, according to Democrats’ own logic, why should it be any different here?
