President Trump Comments On GOP Congressman Accused Of Abusing Ex-Wife

President Trump said he learned about the domestic abuse accusations against Rep. Max Miller (R-OH), who is accused of abusing his ex-wife.

Miller was formerly married to Emily Moreno, the daughter of Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH).

The Republican senator said Miller “needs serious psychological help” and should not serve in the House of Representatives.

“It’s a very sad thing. I know Max. He’s a good person. I mean, I always thought he was a very good person, and I’m going to let the families figure that out,” Trump told reporters.

“It’s a very sad thing, especially when you know somebody so well, to be going through that. But it’s accusations, and I’m gonna let them figure that out,” he continued.

The Hill shared further:

Miller has denied the allegations against him, saying they are not representative of the “reality” of the situation between him and his ex-wife.

“My former wife is engaging in a pattern of reporting incredible, serious and destructive allegations with absolutely no evidence,” Miller said.

“Every one of these allegations was investigated, and I say that again: Every single one of these allegations were already investigated, and I cooperated fully every single time because I had nothing to hide, and I have nothing to hide now,” he continued.

Miller has been serving in Congress since 2023.

“If there are any basic standards of character required to hold elected office, Max Miller fails them. He should not serve in the House of Representatives. I believe Max Miller needs to seek professional help to end the clear pattern of abuse he has left in his wake. I believe he should not be free to continue endangering others until he does,” Sen. Moreno said.

“I ran for office because I wanted to make a difference for the country that gave me every opportunity to succeed, and to leave this nation better for my children and grandchildren. That sacrifice has been especially hard on my wife Bridget, whose big heart and steady support have never wavered. I owe it to her, to Emily, and to my granddaughter to speak the truth now,” he added.

Trump was asked if he thought Miller should resign, saying he was “going to look at” the accusations against the Ohio Republican.

Trump added that he “just learned” about the accusations.

“I mean, so far it’s accusations. I’ll be looking at it,” he said.

As concerns have grown about Miller’s electability, some top House Republicans have phoned White House officials asking for help, one of the people told CNN. Those members specifically want Trump to ask for Miller to drop out before the deadline for him to appear on the ballot, that person said.

Trump has privately told some allies that he doesn’t believe Miller can win the race, given the accusations, and that he should drop out, one source familiar with the internal conversations told CNN.

Miller again insisted in a statement Monday that he would not drop his reelection bid.

“If I dropped out of this race it would mean we as a nation have fallen so far from our American values. I will not validate false claims by removing myself just to please the court of public opinion,” he said. “I am innocent of all of the allegations that have been attributed to me. I have done well representing (my) constituents interests. Why would I drop out?”

Over the weekend, Moreno said that his ex-son-in-law “should not serve” in Congress. Some in Trump’s circle lamented on Monday that the senator waited so long to directly condemn Miller, worrying it may now be too late to convince the president and GOP leaders to mount the full-court press necessary to push him out of the race.
