Ted Cruz Makes A Wild 2028 Prediction — And Declares One Democrat ‘Finished’

Ted Cruz is looking past the next election and straight at a Democratic Party being pulled hard toward its socialist wing.

His prediction is blunt: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will run for president, Zohran Mamdani will take Chuck Schumer’s Senate seat, and Schumer’s long career in New York politics is effectively finished.

The Texas senator laid out the entire forecast in a video posted to X, saying Republicans should not celebrate the radicalization of the opposing party because the consequences would be dangerous for the country.

Here is Cruz making the prediction in his own words:

Cruz’s most explosive verdict was reserved for the Senate minority leader.

He said Schumer can no longer win a Democratic primary in New York and predicted the senator may not even seek another term. Cruz has joked that Schumer will become the first member of an AOC presidential campaign simply to keep her from challenging him at home.

That was only half of it.

Breitbart News reports that Cruz made the case during an appearance on “Hannity.” In his telling, AOC is more likely to chase the White House than a Senate seat, leaving Mamdani as the rising left-wing force positioned to replace Schumer.

Cruz called the New York City mayor the most powerful Democrat in the country. He warned that today’s openly socialist movement is driving the party rather than merely agitating from its edges.

He drew a line between ordinary policy disagreements and a movement he believes is hostile to the country itself. Higher taxes and heavier regulation are political fights, Cruz said, but contempt for small-business owners, Christians and Jews is something far more dangerous.

Cruz said he wants two functional parties whose leaders love America even when they disagree. His warning was that an openly communist candidate could eventually inherit power if the pendulum swings back toward Democrats.

The danger, Cruz argued, is bigger than one New York primary.

Power swings back and forth in American politics. A party that embraces candidates hostile to free enterprise, religious Americans and the country’s basic institutions could eventually regain control of Washington.

That is why Cruz refused to treat the Democrats’ leftward sprint as nothing more than an easy campaign advantage for Republicans.

The early numbers explain why he is taking AOC seriously.

The University of New Hampshire Survey Center found Ocasio-Cortez leading its prospective 2028 Democratic field with 22 percent among likely New Hampshire primary voters. Pete Buttigieg followed at 21 percent, while Mark Kelly drew 9 percent, Gavin Newsom 8 percent, Bernie Sanders 6 percent and Kamala Harris just 5 percent.

The poll found that AOC’s support was concentrated among self-described socialists and progressives. Buttigieg drew a more even mix of progressives, liberals and moderates.

The Republican side offered another revealing contrast: JD Vance led Marco Rubio, and two-thirds of likely GOP primary voters said they wanted the 2028 nominee to build on President Trump’s presidency. The two parties are already sorting themselves around very different political futures.

A separate national survey produced a different leader, but it still placed AOC firmly in the top tier.

Emerson Polling’s own post shows Buttigieg at 19 percent and Newsom at 17 percent, with AOC tied with Jon Ossoff at 13 percent:

Emerson College Polling surveyed likely voters nationally and found a fragmented Democratic field with 13 percent still undecided. The contrast with New Hampshire is important: no candidate has locked down the race, but AOC already has a real faction behind her and a plausible path to the front in an early primary state.

The demographic breakdown showed Ocasio-Cortez drawing 16 percent among women and 9 percent among men. Buttigieg was even at 19 percent with both groups, while Newsom’s support was far stronger among women than men.

Emerson conducted the survey July 19 and 20 among 1,100 likely voters. The overall credibility interval was plus or minus 2.9 points, and the results were weighted by gender, education, race, age, party registration and region.

Ocasio-Cortez has not announced a 2028 campaign and has publicly kept her attention on the midterms. Mamdani has not announced a Senate bid against Schumer either.

Cruz is making a prediction. No succession plan has been announced.

The power shift he sees is already visible. Schumer represents the old Democratic establishment.

AOC and Mamdani represent the party’s younger socialist movement, and that movement is no longer content to shout from the sidelines.

If Cruz is right, the next major fight inside the Democratic Party will not be about whether the socialist wing gets a seat at the table.

It will be about who gets pushed out when that wing takes over.
