Although he votes largely in lockstep with the Democrat Party, U.S. Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) has been an important voice on that side of the aisle when it comes to speaking out against some of its most objectionable extremism.
And that means he occasionally aligns with the Trump administration, as is the case regarding ongoing military action in Iran.
As The Hill reported, the Pennsylvania Democrat recently explained his position:
“Now remember, they have nuclear dust. Why isn’t that important? Why doesn’t that justify to continue to justify these kinds of strikes?” Fetterman said on “Sunday Morning Futures” with Fox News’s Maria Bartiromo. “I think it’s an important thing to break the Iranian military regime as they continue to do.”
ADVERTISEMENTFetterman has been among the very few Democrats in Congress to support Trump’s conflict with Iran. Earlier on Sunday, he told CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union” that it was “incredibly important to confront Iran and to confront Iran with their ambitions, specifically nuclear ambitions.”
“Every single Democrat that I’m aware of says we must never let Iran build a nuclear bomb,” Fetterman told Tapper. “And here we are again, right now, negotiations and all other kinds of strategies have been employed over the last 47 years, and they’ve been accessible up to now.”
“And so where I’m at –– I think we’re in an important point in our time, and I think it’s entirely appropriate to continue to get Iran,” he added.
His remarks sparked mixed reactions on social media, including some praise from the right:

FETTERMAN SOUNDS THE ALARM ON HIS OWN PARTY
The Democrat party civil war is real!
Senator John Fetterman going hard:
- Iran’s nuclear ambitions and massacres? Democrats won’t criticize them but love bashing America and Israel.
- Praises Lindsey Graham as a great American and true friend to Israel.
- Straight up warning: If the Democrat platform turns officially anti-Israel, he’s reevaluating where he stands.
- Calls out the radical shift — primaries rewarding extremists who platform Hamas sympathizers like Hasan Piker.
The Democrat Party is losing the plot on Israel and national security.

His remarks over the weekend come on the heels of this recent interview with the Washington Reporter:
While many Democrats in Congress are voting to hamstring Trump’s ability to bring the Iranian regime to heel, Fetterman told the Reporter that his message to the Iranian leadership is clear: “they are the bad side. We are the good side.” The lawmaker frequently criticized many in his own political party and in the media in his interview with the Reporter for equating America and Iran.
“Many in the left media work to make it seem that there’s a moral equivalence” between the two belligerents, he said. “My message to [Iran] is to stop being committed to destroying Israel, stop backing proxies like Hezbollah and Hamas. Then there’d be peace in the region. They are one of the most destabilizing forces in the world.”
“I would remind people that just a couple months ago they killed over 30,000 or more of their young people in the street,” Fetterman added.
In the days since Fetterman’s interview with the Reporter, Trump has been doing what the Pennsylvania lawmaker suggested, striking the country day after day — with a notable uptick after the tragic and sudden death of Sen. Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.), one of the Senate’s staunchest Iran hawks.
