Since joining the WNBA, Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark has been both the league’s biggest draw and her competitors’ biggest target.
And after a series of seemingly biased calls from officials, some Clark fans might argue that the referees are also conspiring against her.
As Fox News reported, an incident during the Fever’s recent game against the Golden State Valkyries represents the latest example in the trend:
On the trip down the floor before the confrontation, Clark drove to the basket and appeared to be shoved by Golden State veteran Kiah Stokes while attempting a layup. No foul was called.
ADVERTISEMENTMoments later, with 4:20 remaining in the second quarter, officials whistled a foul on an Indiana teammate.
Clark immediately turned toward the referee, yelling from close range and dropping some F-bombs to argue that the Fever weren’t getting the same whistle at the other end.
Despite the heated exchange, Clark was not assessed a technical foul.
The on-the-court moment sparked some significant social media discussion:
WNBA is a racist, corrupt league…it’s like the WWE on how fake, biased the league and refs are….she should go play in Europe

Quit protecting these idiotic referees. It’s obvious these fools do not care what she has brought to the league. Well, players care that their paychecks have gone up but are too stupid to realize why. How can so many people be so stupid.

The WNBA is a complete joke. A circus. Clark needs to quit and go do something else with her talent. The WNBA will go back to losing money and be where is needs to be back in the bottom of the barrel where it belongs. What an absolute joke.

It’s just the refs rigging games for the betting markets. Nobody will see this comment because the league will hide it.

The New York Post provided these details:
After the game, Clark revealed she suffered a “contusion” on the play she was frustrated about.
“The ref can’t miss that,” she told reporters after the game about the call she felt the refs missed. “And then I have to play with a contusion in my leg the rest of the game. It’s ridiculous.”
So far this season, Clark is averaging 20.1 points per game while shooting 42.7 percent from the field and 33.1 percent from downtown.
Wednesday was not the first time Clark has expressed frustration with referees this season.
After a game against the Mercury on June 22, Clark received a technical foul for clapping in response to a personal foul called on her.
Clark didn’t hold back after that game.
“It’s ridiculous,” Clark told reporters after the June 22 game. “I got a technical for clapping. We should all just go on the calendar now and pick a game that I’m going to be suspended for if I’m going to get technicals for clapping. If any technical should be taken away, it should be that one. I don’t understand it at all.”
ADVERTISEMENTDays later, she was at the center of a still-talked-about moment in which the Mercury’s Alyssa Thomas’s first hit Clark’s throat while the two battled for a loose ball on the floor. Thomas, not called for a foul at the time, was retroactively given a flagrant 2 and a one-game suspension. Sports Business Journal reported this week that NBA commissioner Adam Silver implored WNBA counterpart Cathy Engelbert to suspend Thomas.
Here’s some additional commentary on her remarks after the June 22 game:
