CNN’s Scott Jennings Claims He Spoke to Mitch McConnell: “He’s Still Recovering”

As speculation continues to swirl about Sen. Mitch McConnell’s health condition, a prominent political commentator says he has personally spoken with him.

In a post on X, CNN contributor and former McConnell advisor Scott Jennings claims that he had a 20-minute-long conversation with the 84-year-old Republican Senator this morning.

According to Jennings, McConnell is still recovering in the hospital.

I spoke to my old friend Mitch McConnell this morning, the senior Senator from Kentucky. He’s still recovering in the hospital. We talked for just shy of 20 minutes … about IRAN, UKRAINE, the unfolding situation in MAINE, my visit to the TR Presidential Library, and even a little bit of Senate history. I told him we want to see him back at work as soon as possible.

Two sitting senators, including Senate Majority Leader Thune, also claim to have spoken with McConnell in recent days.

Per KCRA:

A statement from Senate Majority Leader John Thune’s team said he spoke with McConnell Monday by phone. “They had a lengthy and substantive conversation that covered a variety of topics, including national security,” the statement said.

Senate Whip John Barrasso (R) also released a statement:

“Senator Barrasso and Senator McConnell had a lengthy conversation early this afternoon. Their phone call lasted roughly 20 minutes. They caught up about the latest news impacting Senate races, the Graham Platner scandal, and the recent Supreme Court ruling on coordinated spending limits. They also discussed the Senate’s July work period, including the need to pass the NDAA and confirm President Trump’s nominee for Director of National Intelligence. Senator McConnell was fully engaged and is eager to get back to the Senate.”

As you probably know, Mitch McConnell was rushed to the hospital three ago, and we haven’t heard directly from him since.

Little has been released about his condition, leading many to wonder if he is even alive.

Scott Jennings’ post contrasts reports circulating that McConnell is braindead and effectively a vegetable.

  • Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., spoke with McConnell on Monday and Tuesday, according to NOTUS, which cited a spokesperson for Thune who said the two “had a lengthy and substantive conversation that covered a variety of topics, including national security.”
  • Reporter Desirée Townsend backed up claims made by far-right activist Laura Loomer on Monday that McConnell was officially braindead and on life support.
  • A McConnell spokesperson told multiple outlets last week the senator was recovering in the hospital and “continues to improve, and is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session.”

In response to claims that McConnell is still recovering and well enough to hold a phone conversation, Loomer has doubled down.

She now claims that this is a cover-up by senators who want to sabotage the SAVE America Act:
