On Sunday, President Trump officially turned 80 years old!
At today’s 67, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz had a late birthday present ready for President Trump.
Amid the World Cup, the gift was a custom “Trump 47” version of the German national soccer team’s jersey.
Chancellor Merz shared some photos on social media:

Gifts appear to be the German Chancellor’s way of trying to win over President Trump and project unity between our nations.
The New York Post provided some more background:
Merz has a track record of gifts tailored to win Trump’s approval.
Last year, the chancellor presented the president with a golf club and a gold-framed copy of the birth certificate of Trump’s paternal grandfather, who grew up in western Germany before emigrating to the US.
The US is co-hosting the quadrennial soccer tournament with Mexico and Canada, whose prime minister, Mark Carney, was also present at the meeting.
During the G7, President Trump was also given a bike by French President Emmanuel Macron.
Fortune has more on that:
The day brought a few instances of gift-giving diplomacy.
Macron gave all seven of his counterparts personalized bicycles to promote the Cycling World Championships scheduled next year in the French Alps, according to David Lappartient, president of the Union Cycliste Internationale, on social media.
There was no hot mic moment to detect the reaction of Trump, who is not known to bike and has joked about doing minimal exercise beyond regular golf outings.
Merz, who recently sparred with Trump over the war in Iran, presented Trump with a German national team soccer jersey bearing Trump’s name and the number 47. Trump raised it and smiled for a photo before setting it aside.
Merz posted a photo of the exchange on social media and offered a pointed message: “After all, we’re on the same team.”
Fox News provided further coverage on the late birthday gifts that President Trump received today:
🚨 LMAO! DOOCY: "Even though Donald Trump is not the host [of the G7 summit], he is just a guest, he is being SHOWERED with gifts!"
