This story is just so sad.
Last Wednesday, an elderly Christian couple in Mississippi were murdered in their own home by a black teenage burglar who had broken in.
Billy Blair and his wife Virginia Carol were killed by 17-year-old Cordarius Hobbs, who then proceeded to get into a six-hour standoff with police.
Here are the terrible details:

Billy and Carol Blair were the kind of couple everyone in town knew.
They ran a tire shop together, went to church together, and after decades of marriage, were rarely seen apart. Carol spent 30 years playing piano at their church.
Last week, both were killed inside their Mississippi home. When police arrived for a welfare check, they came under fire and were held off for nearly 6 hours before a 17-year-old suspect was finally taken into custody.
But ask around town, and people aren’t talking much about the suspect. They’re talking about Billy and Carol, the couple who spent a lifetime side by side and left a mark on everyone who knew them.
In the end, they’ll be remembered for how they lived, not how they died.
Law enforcement walked right into the burglary after relatives called in a welfare check on the Blairs.
The New York Post reported on the shootout that ensued:
Cops swooped on the Mendenhall home just after noon for a welfare check after worried relatives couldn’t make contact — but they encountered gunfire upon their arrival.
The burglary was already taking place when police arrived and the front door was open. It’s not clear how long Hobbs had been inside the house.
ADVERTISEMENTHobbs allegedly told cops he would surrender at the front door before escaping via the back of the Blairs’ home.
Hobbs bolted out of the property after cops fired tear gas, said Bailey Martin, the Mississippi Department of Public Safety spokesperson.
He allegedly fired at four different cops as well as an infant. Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey said those who were shot at were “pinned down by gunfire.”
Hobbs was shot by a trooper during the standoff and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. He was arrested after being chased by officers.
Hobbs is facing 13 charges, including burglary and capital murder — the latter of which can result in the death penalty in the state of Mississippi, but only for adults.
It is unclear whether or not this 17-year-old can be charged as an adult. If charged as a juvenile, he faces a maximum sentence of up to 50 years behind bars.
The Blairs were loved in their community. People who knew them are calling for justice.
Their pastor Andy Fullington described the Blairs as “the sweetest couple” who were devoted to the Lord, their church, and community.
Watch what he had to say in this local news clip:
I have truly awful news…

He shot at a BABY!!!
Their names were Billy and Virginia Blair. He was 74. She was 71.
They were high-school sweethearts and owned a tire shop together, their pastor called them “the sweetest couple,” people who “loved the Lord.”
In broad daylight, a 17-year-old broke into their home and m*rdered them both.
Police say the suspect opened fire on FOUR officers… and an INFANT at the scene.
All of them were hit.
By the grace of God, all miraculously survived.
ADVERTISEMENTThe 17-year-old now faces 13 felonies, including TWO counts of capital m*rder.
A judge denied him bond.
Billy and Virginia Blair survived everything life threw at them for over 70 years…
…only to be murdered in the one place they should have been safest.
Their own home.
Say their names.
Billy and Virginia Blair.
What a tragic loss of life.
Please keep the Blairs’ grieving family and community in your prayers.
As Pastor Fullington said in that video, “Justice is gonna be served.”
