One major comic book company must’ve missed the memo that everything doesn’t have to be transgender anymore.
Just in time for “Pride” month, DC Comics debuted a reimagining of Wonder Woman that involved a universe where she’s actually a he.
Breitbart provided the details:
The plot of the upcoming Justice League Dream Girls – A DC Pride Event #1 comic follows the company’s transgender character, Nia Nal, aka Dreamer, as she and several other characters enter into an alternate reality where Nia, not Diana Prince, had become Wonder Woman.
ADVERTISEMENT“The DC Pride priorities have always been to spotlight queer characters, serve as a launchpad for new, year-round DC storytelling, and celebrate our roster of incredible talent,” DC editor Andrea Shea said in a statement, according to Attitude.
“And in so many ways, 2026 is the culmination of the last five years – what we’ve always been building toward: a series of stories that take place in the heart of DC continuity and serve as the next chapters for some of our most beloved characters,” Shea added.
The character first appeared on TV in 2018 — but not in the comics. Transgender actor Nicole Maines first portrayed Dreamer on the CW’s Supergirl TV series that aired from 2015 to 2021. The character finally made the switch to comics in 2021 — also in a DC “Pride” event issue — after Supergirl was canceled.
Unsurprisingly, the social media reaction was predominantly negative:
And people wonder why American comics are dying. Get the activist ass hates out of these creative positions and get people who are actually creative and care.

Several years ago, The Advocate wrote a glowing piece about the narrative that set the stage for this latest gender-bending comic:
The character of Bia, a Black trans woman, was introduced in the first issue of the DC Comics series Nubia & The Amazons, out this week. She is one of five women who have entered the Amazon world through the Well of Souls, “a portal through which women who have died as a result of the terror of ‘Man’s World’ are reborn, given new life among the immortal women,” Screen Rant reports. Their memories of their previous lives are erased.
“I don’t know how to explain it yet, but this exact moment feels like my soul has desired it long before I came here,” she says. She then chooses the name Bia, as all who have come through the portal give themselves new names.
ADVERTISEMENTOn Twitter, Stephanie Williams and Vita Ayala, the writers of the series, confirmed that Bia is trans. They also said she “isn’t a box to tick … [she] is important to her community. Just as Black trans women are important to us in real life.” In a skill test, she demonstrates expertise at navigating a maze.
