Although he faced some backlash, including from within his own team, New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart has added more than a few new fans after introducing President Donald Trump at a recent event.

Trump added his take, recalling the introduction and conversation they had at that time.

As Fox News reported:

“First of all, I wished I looked just like Jaxson,” Trump said. “I said, ‘Is he a male model?’ He’s a handsome guy, like a beautiful guy, conservative guy. He said, ‘I love you, sir.’ I didn’t know he was doing it. He’s potentially a great quarterback. He’s a young boy. He just really started, but when he’s in a game, he moves the team.

“I didn’t know him but I watched him a little bit but he really moves the team. Tremendous potential. If he stays healthy, he’s gonna be great.”

Trump sent a reminder about the 2024 presidential election win over Kamala Harris.

He said that he won the popular vote and received a ton of support from counties across the U.S.

“So, when Jaxson gets harassed a little bit, he’s also loved more because we have more people than they do,” Trump said.

Dart faced criticism, even from teammate Abdul Carter, for introducing Trump at the event in Suffern.

Dart has also addressed the backlash, which has fueled significant social media discussion in recent days:

Abdul Carter says he will only address Jaxson Dart introducing Donald Trump one time:

“Some things are bigger than football, and this is one of those things.

Jaxson is one of our leaders – he’s the face of our franchise. He represents himself and what he does, and he represents all of us.

If he chooses to align himself with a man like President Trump, it’s my responsibility based on what I believe and what I stand on to not only show my teammates that I’m against that, but to show the world.

That doesn’t mean that we have to spread hate. That doesn’t mean that me and Jaxson hate each other or we have beef. I sit next to Jaxson every day – we’re close, we talk.

As long as we make sure we have the same goal as a team, and our goals align – which they do -that’s all that matter.

I just want to move past this.”

But not everyone was satisfied with Dart’s response, as Yahoo Sports reported:

Dart said in a prepared statement that his decision to introduce Trump was simply out of respect for the office and in light of his family’s history of military service. While adding that he understands “the world of politics can be a sensitive matter,” he deflected when asked whether he understood why standing with Trump would have been an issue for his teammates and whether he thought he’d made a mistake. In both instances, he said that his statement would be his only response on the matter.

PFT’s Mike Florio understands how the PR sausage is made and why Dart stuck to his statement. However, he also thinks Dart did himself a disservice by not answering the question about how his decision impacted his teammates.
