When it comes to effectively communicating the Trump administration’s immigration policy, border czar Tom Homan is somewhere near the top of the list.
And as ongoing protests in New Jersey fuel allegations of mistreatment at the Delaney Hall immigration facility, Homan was once again on hand to provide a counterargument based on facts, not feelings.
Fox News provided this report after his recent appearance on “Hannity”:
Protests have escalated into confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement.
ADVERTISEMENTSherrill issued a statement, writing that she is “deeply disturbed” by alleged “poor conditions” at the facility.
“I have long opposed private detention facilities and advocated against them. I will continue to call for the closure of Delaney Hall because of reports like these,” she wrote.
Democrats have since mounted a broader effort against the facility, including calls from House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries for Delaney Hall to be “shut down.”
Homan, however, blamed what he called “false” Democratic claims for the chaos.
“We’ve got to remember what started all this. You’ve got Democratic lawmakers from Memorial Day making false allegations about the facility, about the food, the medical care, hunger strikes,” he said.
“I went into that facility. I went to the medical [portion]. I went through outdoor recreation, indoor recreation. I even made a surprise visit this weekend and walked into the cafeteria and ate the same meal that the detainees around me were eating,” he added.
“I made sure my tray equaled their tray. I had spaghetti and meat sauce. I had beans. I had green beans. I had bread and rolls. I had drinks. I had dessert. The food was good. It’s all a false premise.”
The Newark protests continue to fuel social media discussion:
This “protest” at Delaney Hall is pure astroturf bullshit, not organic, not local.
5 out of 6 rioters arrested were out-of-state imports, per Governor Sherrill. Professional agitators bused in to attack cops and shut down ICE.

Exactly.
She went there and started this Memorial Day hoping for a negative ICE media event caused by her efforts.
All that happened was she created an ongoing riot where people are assaulting police on camera. State police finally. She shouldn't have started this. pic.twitter.com/wxqNx3oVQQ

🚨 Retarded Anti-ICE agitators outside Delaney Hall immigration center in New Jersey are now digging up large bricks to build their blockade wall.
Virtue signaling meets open obstruction of federal law enforcement.
This isn’t protest — it’s lawlessness.
Time to back our ICE… pic.twitter.com/3zT479NNri

Here are some of the latest details, via Gothamist:
Newark officials have set a curfew for the area around an ICE facility that has been the focus of intense protests and clashes between law enforcement and demonstrators over the past week.
The curfew is in effect for a half-mile radius around the Delaney Hall detention center on Doremus Avenue. The curfew took effect at midnight Sunday, and it will be in place between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. until further notice.
Meanwhile the city has also closed Doremus Avenue, the corridor at the heart of Newark’s industrial section, to all pedestrians and any vehicle traffic that isn’t on “official business.” The Doremus Avenue restrictions are effective at all times. State police leaders said they have set up checkpoints on Doremus Avenue at Wilson Avenue and Roanoke Avenue.
Newark Mayor Ras Baraka said the curfew was needed “due to the escalating situation at Delaney Hall and the increasing need for police intervention.”
“Multiple individuals have already been arrested and found in possession of weapons, underscoring the seriousness of the threat,” Baraka said in a statement posted to social media overnight.
