This is a horrible situation all around. Hoping the staff and those present at Swedish Covenant Hospital are also okay.
This morning, the suspect was taken to the hospital before being transported to jail.
While at the hospital, he shot the police officers and tried to escape.
NBC Chicago reported further:
Around 10:45 a.m., two Chicago police officers were shot at Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital, located at 5140 N. California Ave. in Chicago’s Ravenswood neighborhood.
Police took the suspect to the hospital to be checked out before going to jail for a separate offense before the shooting broke out, police sources told NBC Chicago.
One officer was later pronounced dead and the other was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, sources told NBC Chicago.
A manhunt for the suspect ensued, with authorities swarming the hospital and nearby area. Alderman Andre Vasquez to ask residents in the surrounding area to shelter in place amid the manhunt.
ADVERTISEMENTThe suspect was taken into custody around noon, authorities said.
Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital was placed on a lockdown after the shooting. The lockdown was lifted by 2 p.m. but the hospital remained closed.
Endeavor Health said the suspect was brought in for treatment around 9 a.m. and was scanned for weapons upon arrival, in accordance with the hospital’s public safety weapon detection protocols.
The suspect was “escorted by law enforcement at all times” while in the hospital before escaping after the shooting, Endeavor said in a statement around 1:30 p.m. “No team members or patients were physically harmed as a result of this incident. The safety of our patients and team members remains our top priority.”
Apparently, the suspect tried to flee while naked, but he didn’t get far.
Here’s a photo from his escape attempt:

At this time, the suspect’s name has not been released, and we don’t know what crime he committed in the first place to warrant jail time.
But, something tells me he’s not getting out any time soon after all this…
Please pray for the family of the police officer who died and the other officer in critical condition at the hospital. May he make a full recovery.
