Threats on notable figures in the United States have ramped up over the last six months.
On Tuesday, authorities responded to a bomb threat that was addressed to the home of Pope Leo’s brother, Louis Prevost.
In a press release, the New Lenox Police Department announced a bomb threat was directed at the home of Louis Prevost, and a search was conducted at and near the home of the Pope’s brother.
The Hill reported more on the credibility of the bomb threat:
A bomb threat occurred at the home of the brother of Pope Leo XIV on Wednesday night, police in Illinois confirmed.
The New Lenox Police Department issued a statement acknowledging the threat at the home, but after a comprehensive search, it was determined to be unsubstantiated.
No injuries were reported and residents in the area have been allowed to return to their homes after evacuating, per police requests. Bomb-sniffing K-9s were used in the search.
“The incident remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the origin of the report,” police said. “Making false reports of this nature is a serious offense and may result in criminal charges.”
“The New Lenox Police Department thanks the community for its cooperation and patience during the investigation. Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to contact the NLPD at 815-485-2500 or submit an anonymous tip through the Village of New Lenox website @ Form Center • Submit a Crime Tip,” they wrote.

The bomb threat comes just days after President Trump shared he prefers Louis to his brother.
The Independent reported more on Trump’s preference:
In Trump’s estimation, Leo XIV is “WEAK on Crime and terrible for Foreign Policy”, the Potus wrote on his social platform Truth Social, before inevitably claiming that he was, in some roundabout way, responsible for his appointment. “He wasn’t on any list to be Pope, and was only put there by the church because he was an American, and they thought that would be the best way to deal with President Donald J. Trump,” he added, before sharing a bizarre AI-generated image of himself as Jesus.
The president’s papal rant has perhaps been in the post for Vatican City for a while. Since his election last year, Pope Leo has voiced his disapproval of the Trump administration’s immigration policies and his raid on Venezuela, and has recently issued a rebuke over the war in Iran. The Donald, meanwhile, famously doesn’t take too well to criticism.
ADVERTISEMENTAnd in his Truth Social post, he opted for an unexpected line of attack on His Holiness: comparing him to his older brother. “I like his brother Louis much better than I like him, because Louis is all MAGA,” Trump wrote. “He gets it, and Leo doesn’t!”
