Another top official in the Trump administration has resigned.
On Thursday, Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons announced his resignation in a letter.
Lyons has no hard feelings about the Trump administration and stated his resignation is due to family reasons.
The New York Post had the full scoop on Lyon’s sudden resignation:
Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons submitted a resignation letter to DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin on Thursday and plans to step down from the agency at the end of May, according to reports.
In his resignation letter, Lyons said he intends to spend more time with his family and sons as they reach “a pivotal point in their lives” — and added that it’s been a privilege to serve under President Trump, according to a copy reviewed by The New York Times.
“My sons are both reaching a pivotal point in their lives, and my wife and I wish to spend as much time as possible with them,” he wrote.

Todd Lyons replaced former ICE director Caleb Vitello after Vitello resigned in March of 2025, per NBC News:
The Trump administration has removed Caleb Vitello, the acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, from his position, according to two former senior officials with the Department of Homeland Security, under which ICE falls, as well as one current senior DHS official.
Vitello’s removal comes after both border czar Tom Homan and President Donald Trump have expressed anger that the number of people being deported is not higher. Homan has also been upset with media leaks coming out of ICE that he said has led to fewer arrests than ICE has anticipated in certain operations.
The current senior DHS official said Vitello will stay on with ICE overseeing enforcement of arrests, targeting and field operations. The senior official also said an announcement is coming soon on who will replace Vitello as acting ICE director.
Maybe the third time’s a charm?
