MUST SEE: NYPD Officer On Horseback Catches Purse Snatcher

This seems like a scene out of an old western movie.

On Wednesday, an NYPD police officer on horseback caught a purse snatcher.

The entire chase was caught on the officer’s body camera footage and shows the horse galloping several blocks before catching up to a man who snatched a woman’s purse.

NBC New York filled in the details of the pursuit:

There’s no horsing around with this NYPD officer.

NBC New York cameras were on the Upper West Side for a separate story when an equine interaction with a suspected thief broke out around 11 a.m. According to police, a suspect swiped a purse from a victim near West 72nd Street and Columbus Avenue.

After taking the purse, the suspect ran off, with the officer on horseback in pursuit. The chase went up the sidewalks and through the street, and the NYPD mounted unit officer finally caught up with the suspect and made the arrest.

The New York Post reported the man who stole the purse was previously convicted of murder:

An NYPD cop on horseback chased down a convicted killer parolee who swiped a purse on the Upper West Side in a wild pursuit fit for a western flick, dramatic footage shows.

Felicia Field, 44 — who robbed and killed a cab driver with her boyfriend in April 2000 — snatched the bag from a woman on 72nd Street and Columbus Avenue at around 11 a.m. Wednesday then tried to hoof it away, police said. The fearless mounted cop and his studly sidekick, Kelly, quickly galloped across a busy street and down a crowded sidewalk to nab her and recover the purse, according to a tweet from the NYPD.

Field was arraigned and set free on supervised release Thursday morning — less than 24 hours after her arrest.
