The news reports coming from Virginia are absolutely horrific.
Authorities in Virginia have reported that former Democrat Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax allegedly shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself.
The murder-suicide occurred while both of Fairfax’s children were at the home.
The New York Post reported more on the murder suicicd:
— Embattled former Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax killed his estranged wife and himself inside their million-dollar home outside the nation’s capital early Thursday, cops said.
The 47-year-old Democrat repeatedly shot Cerina Fairfax in the basement of their Annandale residence just after midnight before turning the gun on himself in another part of the abode, according to Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis.
The couple’s two teenage children were inside the home at the time of the murder-suicide, and their son called 911 to report the shootings.
Embattled former Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax killed his wife, Cerina Fairfax, before killing himself in their Virginia home, police say.
“It is high-profile in nature, it’s tragic in nature. Certainly a fall from grace for a relatively high-profile family that seemingly had had a lot of things going in their favor,” Davis told reporters shortly before the couple’s bodies were removed from the home.
“So, tragic for the children to lose both parents, extra tragic for them to actually be in the home when it occurred. So yeah, there’s a lot going on.”

Fairfax, while in office, advocated for Virginia’s “red flag” laws that allowed courts to prevent individuals from owning firearms if they were deemed a risk to themselves or others.

Fox 5 DC gave further background to Fairfax’s political career:
Fairfax was a former federal prosecutor and civil litigator. He unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination for attorney general in 2013. Four years later, he won the race for lieutenant governor.
In 2019, Fairfax briefly appeared positioned to become governor when then‑Gov. Ralph Northam became engulfed in a scandal over a racist photo on his medical school yearbook page. Fairfax, next in line to succeed him, was widely considered as a potential replacement.
Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said officers were called just after midnight to the 8100 block of Guinevere Drive, where they found both adults dead inside the residence.
That same year, two women publicly accused Fairfax of sexual assault, allegations he denied. Meredith Watson, who attended Duke University with Fairfax, said he raped her in 2000. Vanessa Tyson, a California professor, said Fairfax forced her to perform oral sex during the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston.
Fairfax denied the accusations and said they were part of a “smear campaign” intended to end his political career.
After leaving office, Fairfax returned to practicing law. Cerina Fairfax worked as a dentist.
Police say the couple had been going through a contentious divorce and were still living together at the time of the shooting.
