President Trump Says He Is “Permanently” Opening The Strait Of Hormuz, China Agrees Not To Send Iran Weapons

President Trump said China is “very happy” that he’s permanently opening the Strait of Hormuz, and it agreed not to send weapons to Iran.

“China is very happy that I am permanently opening the Strait of Hormuz. I am doing it for them, also – And the World. This situation will never happen again. They have agreed not to send weapons to Iran,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“President Xi will give me a big, fat, hug when I get there in a few weeks. We are working together smartly, and very well! Doesn’t that beat fighting??? BUT REMEMBER, we are very good at fighting, if we have to – far better than anyone else!!!” he added.

Trump said Xi Jinping wrote him a “beautiful letter.”

“He responded to a letter I wrote because I had heard that China is giving weapons to Iran,” Trump said.

“I wrote him a letter asking him not to do that. And he wrote me a letter saying that essentially he’s not doing it,” he continued.

More from the New York Post:

Trump and Xi are set to meet in Beijing on May 14-15.

That meeting was delayed due to the war in Iran.

China notably gets roughly 45-50% of its crude imports through the Strait of Hormuz. Over a fifth of the world’s seaborne oil traverses the Strait of Hormuz annually.

Meanwhile, multiple reports have indicated that US intelligence believes China has been preparing to send MANPADs, which are shoulder-fired anti-air missile systems, to Iran to help it defend against potential American attacks.

Trump told Maria Bartiromo that he viewed the Iran war as “close to over.”

The Hill shared further:

The U.S. military, meanwhile, announced that it turned around six merchant vessels and “completely” halted trade from Iran’s ports

The Chinese have recently pushed both sides to end hostilities and open the strait where they get much of their energy supplies.

When asked by The Hill for clarification on the post, a senior administration official told The Hill the blockade “is fully in effect and working.”

“As CENTCOM reported yesterday, no ships have made it past the blockade, which only impacts vessels traveling to and from Iranian ports,” the official said. “The President has been clear that he wants the Strait to be open to facilitate the free flow of energy, and countries are also welcome to purchase oil from the United States of America.”

The Hill has reached out to the White House for clarification on whether the president was opening the lane only for China or if he is allowing ships flagged to other countries.
