John Cleese might not immediately top lists of celebrities most likely to speak out on behalf of Christians.
But when the alternative is sitting by while countless Christians are being rounded up and massacred in Nigeria, even the left-leaning British comic couldn’t remain silent.
Fox News reported on the Monty Python member’s latest remarks:
Numerous news sources around the world, including The Associated Press, reported that according to local military and officials, at least 26 people were killed in three separate Easter attacks in northern Nigeria. This has caused multiple prominent commentators to not only criticize the terrorism rife in the region, but the silence of the international community that they argue is politically-motivated.
ADVERTISEMENT“It looks rather as though Black Lives Don’t Matter,” Cleese lamented on Tuesday, adding what appears to be a sarcastic critique of liberal media by writing, “Also, writing about it would damage the image of the murderers who killed these poor people.”
Cleese had been responding to a post from the Chair of the DOJ Task Force to Combat Antisemitism and Senior Counsel at The Justice Department, Leo Terrell, who had asked, “Why isn’t the world talking about the massacre of Christians by Islamist terrorists??!!!!”
While Cleese is very much a liberal himself — condemning President Donald Trump and his allies frequently — he has been on an ongoing multi-week campaign blasting how liberalism has turned a blind eye toward radical Islam. He had recently made headlines for condemning a mass Muslim prayer that occurred in Trafalgar Square, a British military memorial.
His remarks ushered in a wave of supportive comments:
In the last 30 days, there were 109 Islamic attacks in 21 countries, in which 607 people were killed and 658 injured.

You are just finding this out now, John? It was never about black lives. It was always about the liberal grift of money, money, money. One only needs to see the amount of black people murdered on the streets of Chicago (by blacks) every single week and nothing changes.

God forbid monsters, who burn churches and commit horrific murderers on innocent people in mass, be made to look bad.

Like others on the left, including US comedian Bill Maher, Cleese has often found himself on the outs among so-called progressives due to his stance in opposition to the “woke” ideology.
IMDB reported on one recent example:
In an interview with The Radio Times, the Monty Python and Fawlty Towers co-creator said the BBC is “too influenced by the passion and nastiness of the extremely woke.”
ADVERTISEMENTHe added: “A huge slice of comedy is put straight into the fridge because executives don’t want to get phone calls at dinner. They don’t seem to realise you tease people, you’re rude to people, that you’re fond of.”
Cleese made the comments after a recent meeting with the BBC ended with his ideas being rejected. He described an unnamed senior BBC commissioner as a “clown.”
