Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) denied accusations of sexual harassment against female staffers, breaking his silence on an activist claiming she’s working with a group of women preparing to come forward with allegations.
According to ABC7 San Francisco, Swalwell addressed the allegations at a town hall event in Sacramento.
The California Democrat, who is running for governor, was asked if he’s ever behaved inappropriately with female staffers.
“No, no, it’s false. And also some of the allegations I’ve seen, which is that we’ve had NDAs in the office, and never, there’s never been an allegation and there’s never been a settlement. And I will also just take stock that we’re 27 days before an election starts,” he said, according to the outlet.

ABC7 San Francisco has more:
Politico reports that the accusations originated from multiple left-leaning influencers and other social media accounts without evidence.
His campaign had previously denied the claims, saying Swalwell was being targeted because he is a frontrunner in the race for governor.
Swalwell said he decided to respond publicly to the allegations because he did not want there to be any question about his conduct as the primary approaches.
The development comes as new survey results from the state Democratic Party show Swalwell leading the field of Democratic candidates. In recent public polls, he has been in a statistical tie with fellow candidates Tom Steyer and Katie Porter.
Ballots for the June 2 primary are scheduled to be mailed no later than May 4. Under California’s election system, the top two vote-getters in the primary – regardless of party affiliation – will advance to the general election in November.
“This false, outrageous rumor is being spread 27 days before an election begins by flailing opponents who have sadly teamed up with MAGA conspiracy theorists because they know Eric Swalwell is the frontrunner in this race,” said Micah Beasley, a spokesperson for Swalwell, according to Fox News.
“I have been working with a number of women who are in the process of coming forward and sharing their stories of sexual harassment and even alleged abuse at the hands of Eric Swalwell. Here’s why we’re talking about it before mainstream media,” Gen-Z for Change Executive Director Cheyenne Hunt said earlier this week.

“I got involved because the first victim who approached me is a close friend, but when I saw that there were others who’s experiences fit the same pattern of manipulation and abuse of power, I knew I couldn’t stay silent,” Hunt continued.
“Targeting employees, interns, and fans. Acting as a mentor just to exploit that power. DMs and Snapchat messages. Allegations ranging from uncomfortable comments to potentially criminal conduct,” she added.

Fox News shared further:
Hunt has not provided names for the other women or indicated which other groups she is referring to. In addition to Hunt, multiple other Democratic operatives have posted about Swalwell, including Democratic strategist Bhavik Lathia, who told Democrats to take the allegations “seriously.”
“Hey, I just got off the phone with a trusted friend. This is real. Take it seriously. Eric Swallwell cannot be our nominee. There is going to be a lot more coming out soon. I can’t say more right now, but stay tuned,” Lathia wrote on X.
“Beasley challenged Hunt’s assertions, noting a lack of controversy surrounding Swalwell up to this point,” he continued.
“In 13 years, no one in Eric Swalwell’s Congressional office has ever been asked to sign an NDA. Ever. In 13 years, not a single ethics complaint by any staff in his office or any other office has ever been lodged. Ever,” Beasley told the Post.
In a post to X, Hunt struck back at Swalwell’s framing of her allegations.
“Smearing survivors with claims that they ‘teamed up with MAGA’ is morally repugnant,” Hunt said in a post to X.
“These women are brave and deserve to be heard. We are working with legal counsel and the investigative team of a highly reputable outlet to ensure that those stories are told the right way,” she added.
