SHE’S BACK: In Her Latest Interview Kamala Harris Says She’s Thinking About Running In 2028

It seems that being defeated once was not enough for Kamala Harris.

In her recent interview, Kamala Harris has signaled that she may run for President again.

Harris was asked by interviewer Sharon McMahon whether she was considering running for President again, and her answer was quite surprising.

Mediaite provided a transcript of the interview:

Former Vice President Kamala Harris revealed she was still undecided about another run for president, but said she “might” give it another go.

Harris on Monday held a live video call with author Sharon McMahon. At one point in their conversation, McMahon introduced a “lightning round” tasking Harris with answering a series of a questions in rapid succession. While most of the questions were more lighthearted and had the former vice president reveal things like how she prefers to cook her eggs, the final one took things up a notch.

“Last question,” McMahon began. “Everybody here wants to know the answer. Will you run again?”

Rather than respond to the question with the usual word salad one might expect from a politician in such a position, Harris was surprisingly candid with her answer.

The conversation continued:

HARRIS: I haven’t decided.

MCMAHON: You’re still thinking about it?

HARRIS: I might.

MCMAHON: That’s what I’ve been saying. That’s what I– I closed the book and I’m like, oh, she wants to. She’s just thinking about it. That was my impression. I don’t know if that’s what you intended, but that was my impression.

HARRIS: No, the book is about a specific period in time. There was no agenda beyond what we’ve discussed already, which is just sharing with people, you know, the reality of the experience, and hopefully allowing people to see something of themselves in it, in a way that– you know, that Girl Scout troop, when it comes time for them to read it, might see themselves in and know what they can do and that they could do it.

Harris’s comments come after Gov. Gavin Newsom has been flopping on his shadow campaign trail.

Just take a look:

The Hill provided a poll of Harris’ chances of being the Democrat presidential nominee once again

A poll from Focaldata released last week is the most recent 2028 Democratic poll. It found that 39 percent of registered voters said they would support Harris if she ran. The poll said 21 percent of those surveyed would support California Gov. Gavin Newsom, followed by 10 percent for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.).

The survey also showed that 82 percent of voters who backed Harris in 2024 held a favorable opinion of her, while 8 percent held an unfavorable view. A Tavern Research/Searchlight Institute survey out last month also showed that 90 percent of Democratic likely voters had a favorable view of the former vice president.

Those polls follow other surveys in recent months that showed Harris ahead of would-be 2028 rivals, with the exception of one poll — by Echelon Insights — which shows Newsom ahead of Harris 27 percent to 21 percent, respectively.

Harris has not said publicly if she’s considering a White House run. Privately, she has told advisers and allies that she is keeping her options open.

“I can tell just by talking to her that she’s not done with public service,” one longtime ally said, adding that it’s one of the reasons she decided against running for governor of California this year.

The former vice president is currently on a months-long book tour across the country — including upcoming stops in the Rust Belt states she lost in 2024 — before packed crowds in theaters and auditoriums. And earlier this month, she launched a highly publicized rebranding of her social media accounts.

Still, while her allies maintain she would perform well in a new presidential race that is entirely her own to run, other Democrats — including some of her former aides — worry that putting her up for a second time won’t produce different results.

“Being forced into a 107-day campaign in those circumstances was unfair, but I do not expect Democratic Party voters desperate for a win in 2028 will choose to gamble with a candidate who just lost every swing state,” said one former aide to Harris. “She deserves another chapter, but I hope it’s not as a candidate for president.”

The Democrats’ bench is extremely shallow if Harris is the Democratic nominee again.
