Mamdani’s Latest Promise Is Free Childcare For New York’s Illegal Immigrants

Americans from across the political spectrum warned of the extremist agenda of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani during last year’s campaign.

And since entering office, the self-avowed socialist has lived up to the hype. That includes his new proposal to take money from taxpaying New Yorkers to fund childcare for those living in the city illegally.

The Daily Caller provided more details:

“We have policies in place, policies that have existed for years in this city that deny ICE agents access into schools, hospitals, city properties, or even the properties of city contractors unless those ICE agents can present a judicial warrant signed by a judge,” said Mamdani.

Hosting a roundtable discussion about pre-K and 3-K programs, Mamdani reiterated that, “we are also proud to be a sanctuary city” as he encouraged enrollment was open “for every single New Yorker.” The program enrollment deadline is Feb. 27.

“This is one example of a city program that we are encouraging everyone to apply to, to see themselves as a part of and to know that we are going to use every single law that we have here to protect the health and safety of everyone who signs up,” said Mamdani. “These are not programs that are going to ask the immigration status of any one of the children.”

The proposal drew immediate backlash from social media users opposed to rewarding undocumented immigrants with big-government handouts:

The Times of India also provided coverage of Mamdani’s controversial plan:

Referring to undocumented children, he said: “All those children are New Yorkers. They should all be enrolled in pre-K and 3-K no matter where they were born and where they come from.”

The universal childcare pilot will initially offer no-cost services for children under the age of two in high-need neighbourhoods. The eligibility is based on residency and age rather than income or citizenship. This is aimed at ensuring children are not excluded from early education and allows parents to continue working.

However, one major concern was that the policy uses taxpayer money to help undocumented immigrants, questioning its cost, capacity, and fairness.

Days earlier, he appeared alongside a kids’ show host facing allegations of antisemitism, where they both sang about his socialist plans for the Big Apple:
