Terrible news to report, as at least 2 are dead and 8 critically wounded after an active shooter opened fire on Brown University.

But a new update just shared as of press time for this article says a suspect was in custody but now determined to NOT be the shooter, and the shooter or shooters are believed to still be at large:

• At least two people were killed and eight critically wounded when a shooter opened fire during exams today at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, according to officials.

• Authorities say they’re still searching for the shooter, who was described as a male dressed in black, but few details were immediately available about the suspect.

• The shooting happened at an engineering and physics building where multiple exams were scheduled this afternoon, according to the school. One student told CNN affiliate WJAR he hid under his desk for two hours waiting for police to clear the building.

• President Donald Trump says he’s been briefed on the shooting. Federal law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and ATF, are aiding local law enforcement.

No weapons have been recovered from the shooting but investigators believe that a firearm was used in the incident at Brown University, according to Providence Deputy Chief of Police Tim O’Hara.

At a news conference tonight, he said officials are unaware what type of firearm it was.
