Woman With Family Ties To Karoline Leavitt Released From ICE Custody

We have an update for you.

Last month it was reported, a woman who had a child with Karoline Leavitt’s brother, was arrested by ICE agents in Louisiana.

A new report has revealed the woman who has family ties with Leavitt has been released from ICE under restrictions.

The Daily Mail broke the story on ICE’s move and provided some background on what led to the woman’s arrest:

A woman with family ties to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has been released on bond by a U.S. immigration from ICE detention center in Louisiana.

The judge released Brazilian woman Bruna Ferreira, 33, on a $1,500 bond as she continues to argue her case against a potential deportation.

Ferreira shares custody of an 11-year-old son with her former fiancé Michael Leavitt, the brother of Trump’s press secretary.

ICE agents arrested Ferreira on November 12 while she was on her way to pick up her son from school. She has been detained at the South Louisiana ICE Processing Center for the last month.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Leavitt’s White House for comment.

Immigration Judge Cynthia Goodman released Ferreira on the lowest possible bail amount on Monday.

Ferreira’s attorney Jason Thomas told the judge that the government’s claims that his client is a ‘criminal illegal alien’ with a prior arrest for battery is ‘both unfair and untrue.’

Ferreira claimed in a recent interview with Washington Post that Karoline Leavitt was chosen to be the child’s godmother.

The attorney representing the Department of Homeland Security, Lucas Vega, did not argue against the judge releasing Ferreira from ICE detention on bond.

The Trump administration typically has sought to limit bond for illegal immigrants in past cases.

Vega agreed with her defense council that Ferreira is not a danger to society or a flight risk.

The Guardian reported Ferreira has rejected the White House’s representation of her arrest:

The Brazilian-born mother of White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt’s nephew – who was recently detained by US immigration authorities – has rejected the Trump administration’s characterizations of her as an absentee parent.

Bruna Ferreira, who was detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in November during a traffic stop in Massachusetts and was being held at a Louisiana detention center, said in an interview with the Washington Post that the White House’s statements that she had never lived with her son or spoken with Leavitt “in many years” were incorrect.

Ferreira, 33, had a relationship with Leavitt’s brother, 35-year-old Michael Leavitt. They had a son, Michael Leavitt Jr, now aged 11.

She said she was offended by the White House’s characterizations, calling them “disgusting”. She said she takes her son to Dave & Buster’s, a food and video games chain; ferries him to school, cheers at sports games; and fills his bedroom with “everything a young boy needs”.
