President Trump has announced he is ready to flip the script on those posing an ongoing threat to federal Officers and ICE facilities.
In a social media post this morning he referenced a ‘request’ made by DHS Secretary Kristi Noem for federal assistance protecting those facilities.
The President specified Portland in particular, but made clear that he would be fielding “troops” to any ICE facility targeted by groups now officially categorized as domestic terrorists.
He specifically called out Antifa in this morning’s announcement which included an authorization for “full force”.
The White House was not shying away from the already controversial order, and quickly shared an excerpt from President Trump’s statement via the White House X account which highlighted the President’s authorization for troops and deadly force:
"At the request of Secretary of Homeland Security, @Sec_Noem, I am directing @SecWar, Pete Hegseth, to provide all necessary Troops to protect War ravaged Portland, & any of our ICE Facilities under siege from attack by Antifa, & other domestic terrorists…" – President Trump pic.twitter.com/UEyeCWoqHY

Fox News quickly broke the story earlier today.
Their report correctly highlighted several key points to watch with this announcement.
First, the likelihood of controversy and expected litigation regarding the use of federal ‘troops’; though the specifics of that phrasing has not yet been clarified as to what exactly that means.
And secondly, President Trump’s green light authorization for deadly force in order to protect the ICE facilities that are coming under near constant attack in many locations across the country.
Here’s that concise report from Fox News which also correctly highlighted something else that will become a key variable as this situation develops — the Democratic leadership of Portland as well as the State of Oregon:
BREAKING: President Trump has directed Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to deploy U.S. military troops to protect ICE facilities under nightly siege by Antifa in Portland, Oregon.

Before we get any deeper, here’s the full announcement in the President’s own words made via his Truth Social account this morning:
And here is the full text of President Trump’s statement, in case that’s hard to read:
At the request of Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, I am directing Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to provide all necessary Troops to protect War ravaged Portland, and any of our ICE Facilities under siege from attack by Antifa, and other domestic terrorists. I am also authorizing Full Force, if necessary. Thank you for your attention to this matter!
Not a lot has happened yet, in terms of the fielding of National Guard troops — if that is indeed what is being specified here.
There has been one video circulating online from YESTERDAY showing the arrival of armored vehicles, presumably the first signs that something is about to change at the Portland ICE facility in particular.
Here’s that clip, initially shared by an investigative journalist with the local Fox News affiliate in Portland who also indicated movement going on at a nearby Customs and Border Protection headquarters:
NEW: We just spotted masked federal law enforcement in a Homeland Security armored truck pulling into the federal building in Downtown Portland. @fox12oregon crews also saw many SUVs at PDX’s Customs & Border Protection headquarters leaving earlier today. pic.twitter.com/8IRDCsK3KG

Sometime later, the footage below was captured and shared to X by a NewsNation correspondent showing a sizeable uptick in federal law enforcement outside the facility:

The President’s announcement was predicated by an uptick in recent legal maneuvers by the Democrat-dominated Portland City Council.
Portland’s Democrat leadership has frequently worked against federal officials through creative leveraging of city ordinances, effectively siding with Antifa and other anti-ICE groups.
Nevertheless, US Attorney General Pam Bondi put Portland’s Mayor on notice last month that something would have to give, even as those actions ramped up — as reported by Fox News:
President Donald Trump announced Saturday morning that he plans to send troops to Portland, Oregon, amid ongoing anti-ICE protests in the blue city.
Protests have flared in the city since June, and city officials put a land use violation notice on an ICE facility to dispute how long detainees can be held there, as well as another violation for boarded-up windows.
Anti-ICE graffiti has been scrawled on the outside of the building, and the demonstrations have become violent at times between protesters and federal agents, prompting authorities to use rubber bullets, tear gas and flash bangs to break up the crowds.
Protesters in August were also caught on camera displaying a guillotine and clashing with police before law enforcement fired munitions to get the crowd to disperse.
Portland has been declared a sanctuary city since 2017, which means it largely does not comply with federal immigration enforcement activities.
“You are hereby notified that your jurisdiction has been identified as one that engages in sanctuary policies and practices that thwart federal immigration enforcement to the detriment of the interests of the United States. This ends now,” Attorney General Pam Bondi wrote to Portland Mayor Keith Wilson in August, asking for the city to affirm its “commitment to complying with federal law” and take steps to stop policies that “impede federal immigration enforcement.
But not only is the Portland City Council attempting to actively thwart the operations of ICE in the city…
But the Presidential authorization for deadly force if needed is already getting pushback — directly from Antifa.
That information is coming directly from a journalist who has long focused on infiltrating and reporting on Antifa — long before the President declared the group a domestic terror organization.
You might remember when Andy Ngo was caught on CCTV footage fleeing for his life as Antifa members chased and then beat him on a Portland street back in 2021.
Here’s that clip, and a summary in his own words of that incident:
On May 28, 2021, I ran for my life through the streets of downtown Portland, Ore.
Antifa had discovered me working undercover after one of their members, John Hacker, exposed me to the mob.
I screamed for help as I fled, but drivers and pedestrians looked away. The businesses… pic.twitter.com/kX7PKoIm8a

A short time ago, Andy Ngo responded to a social media post from the Portland FBI Office referencing the situation in the ‘sanctuary city’.
According to Ngo, Antifa and other ‘radical’ groups are openly preparing for a violent response to President Trump’s announcement authorizing federal troops and lethal force:

The news that Antifa is planning to get even more violent in response doesn’t come as much of a surprise for anyone watching the news lately.
In just the last week we’ve seen several increasingly violent attacks on ICE and federal facilities, as referenced in this coverage of today’s big announcement from the New York Post:
Trump also confirmed he is “authorizing Full Force, if necessary,” amid a spate of daily protests against the federal ICE detention facility in Portland that have intensified since June.
The president’s announcement comes on the heels of multiple high-profile attacks against ICE officers and steps announced by US Attorney General Pam Bondi to crack down on those who attack federal personnel.
Portland has long been a hotbed of Antifa activities. Rioters there have repeatedly “attacked and laid siege” to the ICE facility in Portland, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
This includes instances in which a sickos directed a laser beam into the eyes of an ICE officer, threw a smoke grenade at multiple officers, and tried to damage equipment at the facility, per the DHS.
ADVERTISEMENTOn Friday, a grand jury indicted three women for following an ICE agent back to their home and livestreaming the address on Instagram.
Two days earlier, a crazed sniper opened fire on an ICE facility in Texas, shooting at least three migrants. One of the bullets found at the scene had the phrase “anti ICE” scrawled on it.
On Friday, armored DHS trucks were seen rolling into Portland with federal law enforcement officials to safeguard government buildings in the area. (Emphasis added.)
You can read more on that recent grand jury indictment against three women who stalked and doxed ICE Agents here, as reported by WLT’s Danielle just a short time ago:
Many on the left are already (and expectedly) condemning President Trump for this move.
And there has been an uptick on social media of individuals claiming that Portland and other Democrat-run 'sanctuary cities' are nothing but peaceful.
I haven't seen them use the phrase "mostly peaceful", yet... but I'm keeping my eyes peeled.
On the contrary, the violence around ICE facilities in particular has been ramping up for months.
As can be seen from these two clips shared from June, when the interactions between leftist groups and federal law enforcement at the Portland location really started heating up.
Here's a clip shared by Fox News showing federal agents employing non-lethal deterents:
Federal agents used non-lethal munitions to shut down a large group of rioters who tried to block law enforcement vehicles from accessing an ICE facility in Portland, Oregon. pic.twitter.com/rHsPT1sHdq
— Fox News (@FoxNews) June 19, 2025
And here's another clip captured that same day, later shared by the Department of Homeland Security:
Last night, Portland rioters violently targeted federal law enforcement— 250 rioters launched fireworks, shined lasers in officers’ eyes to temporarily blind them, and stormed an ICE field office. If that looks peaceful... [enter over-used comment about Arizona land deals HERE.]
As that breaking news report I shared at the top of this story from Fox News pointed out, the Democratic leadership of Portland and the state of Oregon is going to come into play here.
While the Pentagon has signaled it is ready to make good on mobilizing personnel to support the President's decision...
Both Mayor Wilson and Governor Tina Kotek are denying the entire premise behind President Trump's decision to use troops and authorize "full force", according to this story put out by the Associated Press:
Portland’s mayor, Democrat Keith Wilson, said there was no need for troops in his city. “Our nation has a long memory of acts of oppression, and the president will not find lawlessness or violence here unless he plans to perpetrate it,” he said.
Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said the Department of Defense would provide information and updates when available.
“We stand ready to mobilize U.S. military personnel in support of DHS operations in Portland at the President’s direction,” Parnell said.
But Gov. Tina Kotek, a Democrat, said there is “no national security threat” in Portland.
ADVERTISEMENT“Our communities are safe and calm,” Kotek said.
A spokesperson for the Oregon National Guard, Lt. Col. Stephen Bomar, said in an email that “no official requests have been received at this time” for Guard support. “Any requests would need to be coordinated through the Governor’s office,” he added.
Early Saturday, all was quiet outside that building, with no signs of protesters or law enforcement.
That same anti-Trump sentiment, intent on denying the ongoing conflict playing out on American streets, was highlighted a few weeks ago as things reached a boiling point.
It has been months since Portland Police have made a single arrest related to the violent interactions perpetrated against ICE in the city.
That is according to this Fox News report from just three weeks ago, highlighting the complete "abdication" of local law enforcement, at the direction of the local Democrat leadership.
Check out that Fox News report from less than a month ago on that point, including some of the outrageous footage coming out of Portland:
As you heard on that report, the violence in Portland isn't subsiding.
If anything, it is increasing because there is a high level of organization bringing in people to take part from cities other than Portland, even from other states -- as discussed in that previous clip.
That level of lawlessness, propped up by well-funded organizers, isn't the sort of thing that simply burns itself out.
It's the sort of thing that if unchecked will breed more and more violence and social unrest.
Including an uptick in the violence we are unfortunately growing far too familiar with in this country.
It remains to be seen exactly how this will play out; how soon, and in what form the 'troops' will take when they are deployed.
The Associated Press story I referenced quoted an Oregon National Guard spokesperson who indicated they had not received anything official requesting a mobilization on their part.
Whether the President means to field the Oregon National Guard or not also seems to be a subject of uncertainty at this point.
We'll keep you informed at this situation develops and continue to bring you the news that most of the mainstream outlets won't report -- at least not fully or factually.
