Erika Kirk Reveals Her Thoughts on the Death Penalty For Her Husband’s Killer

Before today’s memorial service for Charlie Kirk, the New York Times published an exclusive interview with his wife, Erika.

In it, Erika spoke about her grief and how ultimately, she can see how the Lord is working through all of this, even in the midst of heartache.

She also addressed her husband’s killer, stating that she is not seeking revenge.

Erika Kirk said she wants the government to decide whether or not to pursue the death penalty against Tyler Robinson because she does not want “that man’s blood on my ledger.”

Because when I get to heaven,” she said, “and Jesus is like: ‘Uh, eye for an eye? Is that how we do it?’ And that keeps me from being in heaven, from being with Charlie?”

Take a look:

BREAKING: In a New York Times interview this morning, Erika Kirk stated she wants the government to determine whether Tyler Robinson, the alleged ass*ssin of Charlie, should face the d*ath penalty. “I do not want that man’s bl00d on my ledger.”

“I’m a strong believer that this was God’s plan… And it’s so clear-cut. It couldn’t be more Charlie… I’ve had so many people ask, ‘Do you feel anger toward this man?.. Like, do you want to seek the d*ath penalty?’ I’ll be honest. I told our lawyer, I want the government to decide this. I do not want that man’s bl00d on my ledger… Because when I get to heaven, and Jesus is like: ‘Uh, eye for an eye? Is that how we do it?’ And that keeps me from being in heaven, from being with Charlie?”

Gut-wrenching!

More from the New York Times:

Beyond the grief, she said, sometimes she is able “to see the Bible in such technicolor. To be so serene in saying, ‘Thy will be done. I surrender to it.’ Do I like it? No. That was the love of my life, my soul mate, my best friend. But God’s plan is always greater than ours.”

Like other Christians at Turning Point, she said she sees a divine logic to Mr. Kirk’s death: a young prophet whose fleeting life has achieved lasting resonance after his martyrdom. While others seek out conspiracies beyond the death of Mr. Kirk at the hands of a lone gunman, Ms. Kirk is not among them.

In her view, a young but towering spiritual voice was silenced by a young lost soul. “I’m a strong believer that this was God’s plan,” she said. “And it’s so clear-cut. It couldn’t be more Charlie.”

She added, “I’ve had so many people ask, ‘Do you feel anger toward this man? Like, do you want to seek the death penalty?’ I’ll be honest. I told our lawyer, I want the government to decide this. I do not want that man’s blood on my ledger. Because when I get to heaven, and Jesus is like: ‘Uh, eye for an eye? Is that how we do it?’ And that keeps me from being in heaven, from being with Charlie?”

It’s very understandable that Mrs. Kirk would not want to bear the responsibility of deciding whether or not to seek the death penalty against Charlie’s deranged assassin.

However, it’s rather interesting how her views on the death penalty differ from Charlie’s own.

TLDR: Charlie believed the death penalty was Biblical and that it was disrespectful to the victim not to seek it.
