Vice President JD Vance just delivered a masterclass to NBC News‘s Kristen Welker when she tried to ask him a “gotcha” question about Republican redistricting efforts.
During today’s Meet the Press, a hostile Welker asked JD Vance why Republicans need to add additional seats to the map “if President Trump’s agenda is so popular.”
VP Vance had the perfect response.
He calmly and expertly explained why many Republicans want to redraw Congressional maps in their states, turning the tables on Welker to point out how Democrats have been gerrymandering for decades.
You have to watch this for yourself:
NBC News’ Kristen Welker: “If President Trump’s agenda is so popular, why do Republicans need to add additional seats to the map?”

Full transcript:
Kristen Welker: If President Trump’s agenda is so popular, why do Republicans need to add additional seats to the map?
VP Vance: You have to ask yourself: why have Democrats gerrymandered their states aggressively over the past 10 to 20 years? If you look for example at the popular vote in a lot of these states. And Massachusetts where 32% of the residents in Massachusetts voted for Republicans. Zero Republican federal representatives.
So, we’re not trying to sort of…all we’re doing frankly is trying to make the situation a little bit more fair on a national scale. The Democrats have gerrymandered their states really aggressively. We think there are opportunities to push back against that, and that’s really all we’re doing.
JD Vance did an absolutely phenomenal job here.
Dare I say, presidential?
Seriously is there anyone better than JD at this? He is disciplined and handles the press with such ease while staying on message.

For Republicans seeking to redraw Congressional maps in their states, it’s not just about adding more GOP seats.
It’s about restoring fairness.
Democrats have been playing dirty for years while Republicans just sit idly by.
That time is over now, and Republicans are doing what they can to fight back.
This X user summed it up perfectly:
Synopsis:
Politics is like a game.
The Republicans have been playing this game with one hand tied behind their back.
But there was a brave leader in Texas, who showed them that you could actually play the game with two hands-free.
It makes for a more fun game.— SpicyPatriot (@SpicyPatriot25) August 24, 2025
