United Airlines Impacted By Nationwide Ground Stop

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced a ground stop for United Airlines flights bound for multiple destinations.

The alert impacted flights to Chicago and other major hubs, including Denver, Newark, Houston, and San Francisco.

“United Airlines has halted all U.S. departures due to a nationwide system failure affecting aircraft load calculations. The disruption has led to a complete standstill, with all flights grounded and no takeoffs or movement expected until the issue is resolved,” Rawsalerts wrote.

“United anticipates the issue will persist throughout the evening, with frustrated passengers reporting being stuck on the tarmac,” it added.

United Airlines issued the following statement on the matter:

“Due to a technology issue, we are holding United mainline flights at their departure airports. We expect additional flight delays this evening as we work through this issue. Safety is our top priority, and we’ll work with our customers to get them to their destinations.”

No other information was released.

“I am on the tarmac for a United flight that has been grounded. The flight attendant says she is hearing that the whole United system for all planes in the USA is down right now. Let’s hope it’s fixed quickly or it is gonna be a long night for everybody,” Dr. Robert Malone commented.

“The United Airlines system USA outage has been fixed! Re-boarding soon!” he later added.

Further details about the problem and what caused it were not available. It was not clear how quickly the ground stop would last, but ground stops can last anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours.

Responding to frustrated flyers who reached out on social media, United said it was aware of the system issue and was working to resolve it as soon as possible.

United had the most delays of any domestic airline Wednesday, according to tracking statistics from FlightAware.com. It was not clear if the number of delays listed included the ground stop flights.
