DEVELOPING: US Base on Lockdown, ‘Separate’ Active Shooter Incidents Indicated [UPDATE]

News is breaking that an active shooter situation has been declared for the Fort Stewart military base.

The entire base is on lockdown, and “multiple casualties” are being reported during the early stages of information — but please keep in mind how that early information can change once details become more clear.

At the moment it is being confirmed that the active shooter situation at the base in Georgia is still active.

Casualties are being reported, though the number and severity is not known at this time.

The Fort Stewart Airfield shared this update on it’s Facebook page following the lockdown order:

Here’s the full text of that update:

Fort Stewart is in a lockdown status due to an active shooter incident in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area. The installation was locked down at 11:04 a.m. and law enforcement is on the scene at the time.
Casualties have been reported and the situation is ongoing.

Fox News issued this breaking news report just a short time ago, emphasizing the ongoing nature of the “threat assessment” currently taking place:

There have reportedly been a number of soldiers already transported to area hospitals according to the New York Post:

Fort Stewart has been placed on lockdown after the Georgia US Army base’s commander reported an active shooter, and announced five soldiers had been taken to the hospital so far.

The lockdown began at 11:04 a.m. in areas of the base including Wright and Evans Army Airfield and the Fort Stewart Schools, with officials advising those on site to remain indoors and close and lock all windows and doors.

Fort Stewart is the largest US Army installation east of the Mississippi River, covering some 280,000 acres (437 square miles, about 93% the size of New York City) in southeast Georgia, and serving as home to the 3rd Infantry Division as well as a training area for a number of other military units.

This video was shared on X showing the moment the lockdown was declared as soldiers go into protocol for these types of scenarios:

Early reporting from Newsweek indicates there may be more than one incident ongoing simultaneously.

That has led to the usual questions concerning a possible “second shooter” or even a more comprehensive attack than just a single shooter incident — but that is only speculative at this time.

As we have seen in many cases that often turns out not to be the case once the dust settles.

Here’s that report, including their corroborating statement on casualties being reported and the report on scanner traffic, just issued by Newsweek:

The situation remains fluid, with casualties confirmed and law enforcement actively responding across multiple locations on the installation.

Georgia Rep. MTG issued a call for prayer on behalf of those impacted in her home state:

The Base Commander reportedly confirmed the incident does involve an active shooter according to this breaking news report covering the incident from CNN:

This comes at time when the prospect of foreign sleeper cells and politically motivated violence is on everyone’s mind.

There is currently no reporting on motive or details surrounding who exactly is behind this ongoing situation.

This is a developing story, and we will bring you updates as soon as more information is available.

UPDATE: [12:35PM CST – 8/6/25 ]

It is currently being reported by Fox News that the base is still on lockdown.

The FBI has responded and is taking part in the continuing threat assessment.

And a suspect is in custody!

There is currently no information on the early scanner traffic that indicated a possible secondary incident.

And while the five soldiers earlier reported to have been transported to hospitals were injured in the incident, no deaths have been reported at this point according to this Fox News update:

Other reporting indicates the suspected shooter is a soldier, and was taken into custody within 30 minutes of the incident.

It remains to be seen whether the FBI is responding in keeping with due protocol considering the event took place on a large US military base, or as part of an ongoing sweep of the base.

And President Trump has been briefed, according to this ABC News update:

Five soldiers were shot by a fellow service member in an active shooter incident at Fort Stewart in Georgia on Wednesday, according to a U.S. official and the military base.

The shooting at the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area was reported at 10:56 a.m. The suspect — a male soldier, according to a U.S. official — was apprehended at 11:35 a.m., Fort Stewart said.

No fatalities were reported, a U.S. official said. Their conditions were not immediately clear, but two of the victims were rushed to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, which is a Level 1 trauma center, hospital officials told ABC News.

President Donald Trump has been briefed on the shooting, according to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.

This continues to be a developing situation and we will bring you more details when they become available.
