More details have emerged of the possible motive for the shooting that occurred in a Midtown Manhattan office building.
As the WLT Report previously covered on Monday, the New York Police Department has reported that Shane Tamura, 27, opened fire inside a Manhattan skyscraper on Monday evening, killing four people, including an NYPD officer.
The building where the shooting took place is the headquarters for the NFL.
Now, authorities have reported that a suicide note was obtained from Tamura’s body that criticized the NFL’s approach to CTE in its players.
ABC News reported more on Tamura’s suicide note:
The man who opened fire in a Midtown Manhattan office building, killing four people and wounding a fifth, had a note claiming he suffered from CTE, police sources told ABC News.
Suspect Shane Tamura died by suicide after the Monday mass shooting at 345 Park Avenue, which is home to NFL headquarters.
A police officer and a civilian were shot in Midtown Manhattan on Monday by a suspect who fled into an office building, police sources told ABC News.
One page of the note found in Tamura’s pocket accused the NFL of concealing the dangers to players’ brains to maximize profits, sources said.
A second page mentioned CTE and blamed football. A third page asked, “Study my brain please. I’m sorry,” sources said.
CTE, or chronic traumatic encephalopathy, is a brain disease linked to repeated hits to the head, often seen in military veterans and athletes including football players, hockey players and boxers. CTE can’t be diagnosed in a living person with certainty, but doctors may suspect it based on symptoms and history of head trauma. Symptoms include memory loss, mood changes, confusion and trouble thinking clearly.

The New York Post reported more on Tamura’s possible motive:
The crazed gunman behind the deadly Manhattan shooting left behind a note referencing former NFL star Terry Long — the Pittsburgh Steelers player who was diagnosed with CTE after downing antifreeze to kill himself, sources said.
Shane Tamura, 27, killed an NYPD officer and three other people on Monday evening when he stormed the Midtown skyscraper that’s home to the football league’s headquarters.
In the wake of the bloodshed, cops discovered a rambling note where Tamura mentioned the ex-NFL star and claimed that he, too, suffered from CTE – a brain injury linked to head trauma.
“Terry Long football gave me CTE and it caused me to drink a gallon of antifreeze,” the note stated, according to sources.
“You can’t go against the NFL, they’ll squash you.”
“Please study brain for CTE. I’m sorry. The league knowingly concealed the dangers to our brains to maximize profits. They failed us.”
