NYC Mayor Eric Adams Reveals Manhattan Shooter Was Targeting NFL HQ But Took Wrong Elevator

As the WLT Report previously covered on Tuesday morning, the New York Police Department has reported that Shane Tamura, 27, opened fire inside a Manhattan skyscraper on Monday evening, killing four people, including an NYPD officer and an executive of Blackstone.

The building where the shooting took place is the headquarters for both the NFL and Blackstone.

Authorities have reported that a suicide note was obtained from Tamura’s body that criticized the NFL for “concealing” Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) in its players.

CTE “is a neurodegenerative disease linked to repeated trauma to the head.”

Now, New York City Mayor Eric Adams revealed that Tamura could not reach the NFL headquarters because he took the wrong elevator.

ESPN reported more on Tamura’s alleged motive:

A gunman who killed four people at a Manhattan office building before killing himself was trying to target the headquarters of the NFL but took the wrong elevator, Mayor Eric Adams said Tuesday.

Investigators believe Shane Tamura, of Las Vegas, was trying to get to the NFL offices after shooting several people Monday in the building’s lobby but accidentally entered the wrong set of elevator banks, Adams said in interviews.

Four people, including off-duty New York City Police Officer Didarul Islam, were killed. Police said Tamura had a history of mental illness, and a rambling note found on his body suggested that he had a grievance against the NFL over a claim that he suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy, which can only be diagnosed after someone has died. He played high school football in California nearly two decades ago, but he never played in the NFL.

“He seemed to have blamed the NFL,” Adams told WPIX-TV. “The NFL headquarters was located in the building, and he mistakenly went up the wrong elevator bank.”

The New York Post reported more on Tamura’s possible motive behind the attack:

The crazed gunman who killed an NYPD officer and three other people in a Midtown skyscraper on Monday evening was carrying a note in his pocket that expressed grievances with the NFL and claimed he suffered from CTE — a brain injury linked to head trauma, sources told The Post.

Shane Tamura, 27, cited the NFL in the writings, which were found after he fatally shot himself in the chest on the 33rd floor of 345 Park Ave. — a swanky skyscraper that houses the football league’s corporate headquarters.

The mentally ill man wanted to shoot up the NFL’s offices on levels 5 through 8 — but “mistakenly went up the wrong elevator banks” and ended up on a higher floor, Mayor Eric Adams confirmed Tuesday.

In his three-page ramblings, Tamura blamed football for his apparent struggle with the neurodegenerative disease chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and pleaded for his brain to be studied in the wake of the massacre, law enforcement sources said.

He also specifically referred to Terry Long, the former Pittsburgh Steelers player who was diagnosed with CTE after downing antifreeze to kill himself 20 years ago.

“Terry Long, football gave me CTE and it caused me to drink a gallon of antifreeze,” the note stated, according to sources.
