Seattle’s Socialist Mayor OUSTS Police Chief After Mass Shooting at Food Festival

Reportedly, the city’s new Democrat Socialist Mayor Katie Wilson has ousted Police Chief Shon Barnes from his role, which he had been serving in for just over a year.

This comes after he completely dropped the ball on responding to a mass shooting at the Seattle Bite food festival on Sunday evening.

Four people were killed, but Chief Shon wasn’t even in town at the time of the shooting!

Seattle’s democratic socialist Mayor Katie Wilson reportedly relieved Police Chief Shon Barnes of his duties Wednesday night after Barnes was out of town during a mass shooting that killed three people at the Bite of Seattle festival.

Barnes was in Dallas at a law enforcement conference when gunfire erupted Sunday evening outside the Seattle Center Armory. The department’s first public briefing didn’t come until hours later, led by an assistant chief. Barnes appeared at a Monday press conference and defended his absence: “I wish that I had a crystal ball and we could schedule gun violence, but we can’t.”

The ouster caps mounting pressure over Barnes’ frequent absences from the city and a tense confrontation with a reporter who questioned his travel.

We live in a society where working from home is becoming more popular, and it has a lot of benefits.

But, Police Chief isn’t a job that can be done remotely, for heaven’s sake!

Chief Shon Barnes isn’t from Seattle. He’s from Chicago, and his wife and kids still live there.

He often flies home to see them.

This insanely long “commute” distance has been heavily criticized by the public ever since Barnes stepped into the role last year.

But, on Sunday, he was out of town for a different reason — to attend a law enforcement conference in Dallas, TX.

It’s unclear whether or not Barnes resigned after being forced out or refused to quit and got fired.

Fox News reported further:

Barnes was asked to resign during a meeting with the democratic socialist Wilson after he abruptly left a silent vigil for the victims of Sunday’s Bite of Seattle shooting, five sources told FOX 13 Seattle.

It is unclear if Barnes accepted Wilson’s call for resignation or was ultimately fired.

Barnes had canceled a series of scheduled interviews earlier Wednesday and later began texting people about his dismissal, according to the report. The mayor’s office and Seattle Police Department had not publicly confirmed the change or announced who would lead the department next.

Barnes was feeling the heat from the media for his alleged frequent weekend absences, reportedly due to the fact he is originally from Chicago, where his family still resides.

“Those reports are wrong, do you understand?” Barnes told a reporter during a tense exchange earlier in the week.

A staffer stepped between Barnes and the reporter as the chief defended his commitment to the city.

The confrontation followed criticism of Barnes’ absence when gunfire erupted Sunday evening outside the Seattle Center Armory during the Bite of Seattle festival. Seven people were struck, including three who died and four who were hospitalized.

Barnes was in Dallas attending the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives’ annual conference when the shooting occurred. Assistant Chief Tyrone Davis eventually led the department’s first public briefing several hours after the gunfire, a delay that drew criticism from residents and local officials seeking information about the attack.

Previously, Barnes lost it when asked by a reporter about his absence during the mass shooting.

Chief Shon Barnes, who was in Dallas when three people were killed at Seattle’s Bite of Seattle festival, pushed back on questions about how often he’s actually in the city.

The exchange became so tense that a staffer stepped between Barnes and the reporter, urging, “Let’s go.”

If you ask me, Barnes’ removal is long overdue.

But, not everyone is happy about it.

Now, the Black community in Seattle is planning to protest.

A group led by Black community leaders is rallying in opposition to Mayor Katie Wilson’s decision to dismiss Seattle Police Department Chief Shon Barnes, according to Community Passageways.

Neither Wilson’s office nor the SPD has confirmed Barnes’ departure.

The coalition of organizations, advocates, and clergy members gathered at Seattle City Hall Thursday morning to demonstrate.

The rally for Barnes comes after just over a year on the job and recent scrutiny over his conduct and his ties to the city after a mass shooting at the “Bite of Seattle” on Sunday.

The group of organizations included Seattle NAACP, Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle, Byrd Barr Place, and Community Passageways, among others.
