BREAKING: Two Firefighters Dead After Ambush In Coeur d’Alene, Idaho — Shooter Still At Large

An active shooter situation has emerged in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho where a shooter seemingly lured firefighters to the scene and then started shooting.

  • Date & Location: On June 29, 2025, near Canfield Mountain in Coeur d’Alene (Kootenai County), Idaho, a brush fire drew in firefighters and other emergency crews.

  • Ambush Attack: As responders arrived, they were met with sniper-style gunfire—authorities describe it as an ambush with shots fired from a hidden position in nearby woods.

  • Casualties: Two firefighters were tragically killed; several others were shot or wounded, though exact numbers remain unclear.

  • Fire Status & Response: The brush fire was still burning as firefighting efforts were halted due to ongoing gunfire.

  • Active Shooter Situation: Law enforcement declared an active shooter scenario. The suspect—possibly more than one—is still at large, and sniper fire was reported during the afternoon.

  • Community Alert: Residents were asked to shelter in place, particularly near Canfield Mountain Trailhead, and to avoid areas south of Hayden Lake Road and east of 15th Street.
