‘Aiding And Abetting’: DHS Secretary Kristi Noem Calls For DOJ To Investigate AOC’s Remarks

Few Democratic lawmakers have been more outspoken in their defense of illegal immigration than Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).

She doubled down on her lawless rhetoric recently, taunting White House border czar Tom Homan:

For her part, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem told Fox News Channel’s Sean Hannity that it would be “entirely appropriate” for the Justice Department to investigate the New York Democrat’s comments.

Per the Daily Caller:

During a Friday town hall in Jackson Heights, Queens, Ocasio-Cortez taunted border czar Tom Homan to “come” for her, escalating public tensions that began in February. Fox News host Sean Hannity asked Noem whether the congresswoman’s prior remarks could be considered “aiding and abetting” and whether the DOJ should “look into this situation.”

“I think the Department of Justice absolutely should look into this situation,” Noem said. “We’ve seen not just those that serve in public office be willing to break the law to facilitate the invasion that has happened and allow criminals to stay here. We’ve also seen judges take radical action to help protect these criminals. It’s time that we stand for what’s right.”

On Feb. 12, Ocasio-Cortez hosted a virtual event on her Facebook page titled “Know Your Rights With ICE,” where she advised illegal migrants how to respond to encounters with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at home or in the workplace.

Homan himself also reacted to Ocasio-Cortez’s remark:

Here’s an earlier clip in which he brings up the notion of a DOJ probe:

And here’s a flashback to his thoughts on the lawmaker in February:

Fox News reported on AOC’s latest tirade:

Ocasio-Cortez told attendees at a Queens town hall event that she was not afraid of the words from the immigration hardliner in the wake of her office hosting a “Know your Rights” webinar in February. Homan has suggested her actions might be illegal and may impede Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from carrying out the Trump administration’s mass deportations.

“Tom Homan said he was going to refer me to DOJ because I’m using my free speech rights in order to advise people of their constitutional protections. To that I say: Come for me, do I look like I care?” Ocasio-Cortez told a cheering crowd.

Ocasio-Cortez asserted that there was “nothing illegal about it and if they want to make it illegal, they can come take me.”

In February, Ocasio-Cortez’s office hosted a live webinar advising migrants in her district about their rights if they come face to face looking to deport them.

People were recommended to ask for warrants, record searches if ICE came calling and were given tips on how to differentiate between different warrants ICE agents are likely to carry.

That led to Homan suggesting the New York Democrat could be crossing a line.

“I’m working with the Department of Justice and finding out. Where is that line that they cross? So maybe AOC is going to be in trouble now,” he said after the event.
