The day has finally come.
After a long legal battle, the House Oversight Project has begun releasing the audiotapes of Joe Biden’s conversation with ghostwriter Mark Zwonitzer back in 2017.
As you may recall, Joe Biden fought tooth and nail for years to keep these recordings from coming out.
And now, we know why.
Not only do the tapes reveal that President Autopen disclosed classified information to his ghostwriter. But, they show that he knowingly did so.
At several points in the recordings, Biden clearly mentions that he is discussing “classified” details.

Wow. No wonder Biden wanted to keep this all under wraps…
This long overdue release comes after Joe Biden finally gave up and dropped his legal fight to keep the recordings from being released to the public.

In total, the House Oversight Project will be releasing roughly 70 hours of recordings in the coming days.
Today's release was only a portion of it -- and, it's already incredibly damning for Joe Biden.
Here's a breakdown of everything the recordings have revealed, so far, along with some context:
- Release details: Roughly 70 hours of 2016–2017 audio recordings of Biden conversing with ghostwriter Mark Zwonitzer for his 2017 memoir Promise Me, Dad. Released by the conservative Oversight Project after a multi-year legal battle; Biden’s team fought the release but ultimately withdrew challenges.
- Classified material references: Biden warns the ghostwriter that some notes “may be classified” and says “this is classified.” He mentions “just found all the classified stuff downstairs” (Feb. 2017) and having extensive notes the White House didn’t know about. He discusses sensitive meetings while working on the book. No classified info appeared in the published memoir.
- Memory and speech: Recordings show Biden speaking haltingly, struggling to remember details, losing his train of thought, and having trouble reading his own notes — consistent with earlier descriptions of diminished faculties.
- Hur report context: The tapes were cited in Special Counsel Robert Hur’s 2024 investigation into Biden’s handling of classified documents. Hur declined charges, citing low likelihood of conviction due to Biden’s age and memory issues.
- Other content: Biden discusses his relationship with Obama (policy disagreements on economy and housing), the 2016 decision on running for president, Obama’s doubts about his chances vs. Hillary Clinton, and various policy views.
- Biden’s prior statements: He had previously said he did not share classified information with the ghostwriter.

In 2016 and 2017, Joe Biden sat down with a ghostwriter to draft his memoir “Promise Me, Dad.”

These tapes, including Biden’s poor memory, were a key reason that Special Counsel Hur declined to prosecute Joe Biden.
Since 2024 the Committee has been seeking the tapes, and recommended holding Zwonitzer in Contempt of Congress after he failed to comply with our subpoena to produce them.
Thanks to the transparency of President Trump and Todd Blanche at DOJ, the Committee has obtained the recordings of Mark Zwonitzer’s interviews of Joe Biden.
