President Donald Trump’s leftist critics in the media and Democratic Party have been portraying his every move in office as an existential threat to the nation, following a trend that started during Trump’s first term in the White House.
But this time around, the American people clearly aren’t as willing to accept the partisan spin at face value.
Even Harry Enten, the chief data analyst for CNN, admitted during a recent broadcast that Trump and his second-term agenda remain widely popular across the country.
As the Daily Caller reported:
“Look at Trump’s net approval rating on immigration. Compare where we are now. Compare where we were at this point in his first term,” Enten said. “In his first term, he was underwater at minus 12 points. Look at where he is today. He’s actually above water. This is one of his strongest issues at plus one points.”
“And more than that, on the net approval, the net approval for him on this issue has stayed steady in the positive,” he continued. “This is an area where Donald Trump wants to focus. Because the bottom line is this is an area in which the American people, at least the bare majority of them, seem to like what he’s doing.”
The analyst then noted the stark contrast between Americans’ views of former President Joe Biden’s handling of immigration compared to Trump’s in his second term so far, citing Reuters/Ipsos polling.
“What track are we on, the right track or the wrong track? Look in December, look at the percentage who said we were on the wrong track: 62% of Americans when Joe Biden was in office, compared to just 14% who said that we were on the right track,” Enten said. “Flash forward to April. Well, hello, 45% say we’re on the right track, compared to 42% who say we’re on the wrong track.”
The “right track/wrong track” polling data has been steadily moving in the right direction since Trump’s inauguration:
Do you think America is on the right track? According to an NBC News poll, 44 percent of Americans believe the country is on the right track- the highest since 2004. And this wasn’t the first time Enten has appeared on the network to deliver statistics many CNN viewers likely abhorred:
As Fox News reported last month:
“I think sometimes it’s important to do a little bit of a reality check and take a little different spin at the numbers,” Enten said. “Because all we talk about is how unpopular Donald Trump is, but in reality, he‘s basically more popular than he was at any point in term number one and more popular than he was when he won election back in November of 2024.”
“I think it‘s very important to compare him to himself, to understand he‘s actually more popular now than he was when he won, or certainly where he was at this point back in his first term,” Enten said. According to his aggregate numbers, Trump has a net favorability rating of -4 now, compared to -7 when he won in November, and -10 towards the start of his first term in March 2017.
Here’s a clip of Enten’s most recent data breakdown:
