In a sharp contrast to Joe Biden’s policy of indiscriminately handing out taxpayer cash and military equipment to Ukraine, President Donald Trump entered office with a desire to actually restore peace to the region amid that nation’s ongoing war with Russia.
Of course, Trump’s many critics have attempted to portray this policy shift as some sort of evidence that Trump is sympathetic to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
But one European leader was willing to speak out against the leftist status quo and explain why she believes the U.S. approach makes sense given the current situation.
As Breitbart reported, Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni made her remarks during an address of her nation’s Senate this week:
Meloni struck a diplomatic tone on tariffs and expressed favor for Trump’s moves to establish a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine as a possible pathway to end the war in Ukraine. She also ruled out sending Italian troops to Ukraine, and spoke against the proposal for a security force by Britain and France. And she pledged to forge ahead with a controversial and stalled plan to vet migrants outside of the EU borders in Albania.
“We support the efforts of U.S. President Donald Trump in this sense,” she said, adding that the proposed ceasefire deal “is a first significant step in a path that must lead to a justice and lasting peace for Ukraine.”
Meloni also ruled out sending Italian troops to Ukraine, saying, “It is not on the agenda.”
“We believe that the dispatch of European troops proposed in a draft by Britain and France is a very complex, risky and ineffective option,” she said.
Meloni has proven to be a rare voice of pragmatism, and even conservatism, within the overwhelmingly leftist European Union.
"The Left is nervous and with Trump's victory, their irritation has turned into hysteria, not only because Conservatives are winning, but because Conservatives are now collaborating globally."

She also warned Italian lawmakers of the risks associated with escalating a trade war with the U.S., as Reuters reported:
The European Union needs to be pragmatic and seek common ground on tariffs with the United States to avert a trade war, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni told parliament on Tuesday.“I am not sure it is good to respond to U.S. tariffs with EU tariffs,” she said ahead of an EU summit in Brussels later this week.
Here’s a flashback to what she had to say about the Russia-Ukraine war a couple of weeks ago:
