President Trump has been invited by King Charles III for a second state visit to the U.K.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer handed the invitation to President Trump personally during a meeting at the White House today.
“This is really special,” Starmer said as he gave President Trump the letter, “This has never happened before. This is unprecedented.”
Starmer went on to explain, “I think the last state visit was a tremendous success. His majesty the king wants to make this even better than that.”
President Trump accepted on the spot, saying that both he and “our wonderful First Lady Melania…look forward to being there and honoring the king and honoring really your country.”

From Fox News:
President Donald Trump accepted an invitation on Thursday from King Charles III for a second state visit to the U.K.
The invite came in a letter presented to Trump by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who is meeting with Trump at the White House regarding ending the war in Ukraine.
“This is really special. This has never happened before. This is unprecedented,” Starmer said as he was sitting next to Trump in the Oval Office.
The Washington Post added:
President Donald Trump accepted a “really special” invitation from King Charles III to visit Britain for a second state visit.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Thursday personally delivered the invite, handing Trump a letter while visiting the White House. Starmer told Trump that the invitation was “unprecedented.” Trump will be the first elected political leader in modern times to be hosted by Britain for two state visits.
Trump immediately said yes.
The British royal family is supposed to be apolitical. At the same time, it plays an important role in the country’s soft power, often being deployed as a charm offensive to help smooth diplomatic relations.
The royal family may be one of the most effective cards the British government can play with Trump, a known royal enthusiast.
Trump has previously spoken highly of the late Queen Elizabeth II — a “tremendous woman” — who hosted him for a state visit in 2019. They met the year before at Windsor Castle during a more informal working visit. Trump was widely seen to have broken protocol when, during an inspection of guardsmen, he appeared to walk in front of the queen.
The U.S. president appears to have a cordial relationship with Charles, despite the two men having differing views on issues including climate change. When Charles revealed his cancer diagnosis, Trump weighed in on social media saying that the king was a “wonderful man” whom he “got to know well” during his first term. According to Melania Trump’s memoir, the Trumps “exchange letters with King Charles to this day.”
