BREAKING: Arizona Supreme Court Hands Down Historic Ruling On Abortion

America is a diverse place populated by 335,000,000 people and spans a whopping 3,531,905 square miles.

It is unnatural, implausible, and insane to expect all of those people to agree on a single thing—this is where state’s rights come into play.

President Trump recently announced his stance on the abortion issue for his 2024 campaign. The 45th President stated that he would leave the issue up to every single state to decide for itself.

In the wake of that announcement, Arizona’s Supreme Court handed down a historic ruling in the Grand Canyon State.

According to the Arizona Supreme Court ruling, a law dating back to 1864 nearly banning abortion outright is enforceable. The only exception would be to save the life of the mother. Here’s what everyone is saying:

CNN confirmed:

In a historic decision Tuesday, the Arizona Supreme Court ruled the state must adhere to a 123-year-old penal code provision barring all abortions except in cases when “it is necessary to save” a pregnant person’s life.

The law, which can be traced to as early as 1864, also carried a prison sentence of two to five years for abortion providers. There is a 14-day stay on the law.

The Biden administration blamed the recent decision in Arizona on President Trump in this social media post due to his recently announced position on abortion laws.

However, the ruling does not necessarily mean that abortion will be made illegal in the state, Axios revealed:

The 4-2 opinion sets up a high-stakes battle over a possible November ballot measure that would protect abortion in Arizona up to 24 weeks of pregnancy.

The blanket abortion prohibition may only be temporary. Advocates are collecting signatures to refer an abortion rights measure to the November 2024 ballot.
