Rep. Matt Gaetz Asks FBI Director Christopher Wray “Are You Protecting The Bidens?”

Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida grilled FBI Director Christopher Wray.

During the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday morning, Gaetz read WhatsApp messages from Hunter Biden to a CEO of a Beijing-based asset management firm.

Gaetz turned to Wray and asked what he thought about the messages to which he replied, “I’m not going to get into commenting on that.”

Gaetz then stated “Almost suspiciously uncurious. Are you protecting the Bidens?”

Weray responded by saying the FBI is not protecting Biden

Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., told FBI Director Christopher Wray that Floridians who have joined the FBI under his watch “deserve better” in a tense exchange during an oversight hearing before the House Judiciary Committee Wednesday morning.

Gaetz then pointed to messages uncovered in June by the House Ways and Means Committee via IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley Jr., who oversaw the agency’s probe into Hunter Biden. In the messages, Hunter allegedly blasted Chinese business partner Henry Zhao for not fulfilling his “commitment” and said his father was with him. Republicans have likened the exchange to a “shakedown.”

“I am sitting here with my father and we would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled,” Hunter wrote in a WhatsApp message to Zhao, the CEO of Beijing-based asset management firm Harvest Fund Management, on July 30, 2017, according to documents released by House Republicans. “And, Z, if I get a call or text from anyone involved in this other than you, Zhang, or the chairman, I will make certain that between the man sitting next to me and every person he knows and my ability to forever hold a grudge that you will regret not following my direction.”

Gaetz recited parts of the messages to Wray and asked, “Sounds like a shakedown, doesn’t it, director?”

“I’m not going to get into commenting on that,” Wray replied.

“You seem deeply uncurious about it, don’t you?” Gaetz fired back. “Almost suspiciously uncurious. Are you protecting the Bidens?”

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) pressed FBI Director Christopher Wray on whether his agency is protecting President Joe Biden and his family during testimony Wednesday.

At the hearing, Wray and Gaetz got into a heated argument when the Florida Republican started accusing Wray of allowing misconduct at his agency by protecting the Bidens and not fully investigating Hunter Biden’s alleged wrongdoings.

Wray said he is “absolutely not” protecting the Biden family, a statement Gaetz didn’t believe and pushed back on.
