Racing has seen a number of generational legacies, and the latest continues to play out in bittersweet fashion within the Busch family.
Months after legendary NASCAR driver Kyle Busch’s unexpected death, his widow celebrated their son’s big achievement in the sport.
As the New York Post reported:
Samantha Busch shared an Instagram post with videos of son and racer Brexton after what was a first win on the track since Kyle Busch’s shocking death in May at 41.
ADVERTISEMENTBusch hugged and kissed her 11-year-old son in the post and the two also posed for a picture in front of dad’s green race car while holding the checkered flag.
While it was an exciting moment on Friday night at Oklahoma’s Port City Raceway dirt track, Busch said she never “felt so proud and so heartbroken” all at once.
“Brexton continues to amaze me with his determination, his resilience, the way he keeps showing up to do what he loves even while carrying so much at such a young age,” she wrote in the Instagram caption. “Watching him celebrate all I could think about was Kyle. There was nothing that made him happier than watching Brex race, spending the day tinkering on his car and then being the first one sprinting to Victory Lane with that huge grin on his face.”
The moment fueled a wave congratulations and condolences:
That is an incredibly tough situation for everyone involved right now. Seeing that kind of raw emotion from a mother is just heartbreaking.
